Last week most of our country saw unseasonably snowy conditions. This amount of snow causes challenges for cows and winter grazing, but predominantly when it’s followed by extreme cold or wind. But can become an advantage if you work with, rather than against it. An hour or two of tractor work can turn a snowy pasture into a wind blocking cow fort. An “L” shaped snow bank in the field means no matter the wind direction animals have a windbreak. From there we unroll a bale on all sides so there’s fresh mulch when the cows need to bed through a windy patch of weather. This technique doesn’t work for wet weather which usually calls for proper cover but it has saved us time, labor and probably a few calves over the years.

We’re looking to hire a passionate individual who loves to feed themselves on what they grow, because that’s us too!

We are looking to fill key roles in animal husbandry and dairy processing as year-round part-time positions or in combination with diverse full-time work. Employees are provided training and experience that can build on a career at our operation, but we also welcome applications from experienced people who can amplify our mission as we expand!

Housing options on-farm and nearby are available if anybody is relocating to the area for the position.

…and to all, a good night. Merry Christmas and happy holidays from our whole herd, flock, drove, crew and family. Thanks for a great year! We’ll be here growing food and humming along thanks to you all. Sending good cheer and joy to you and yours.

Also the cows with the battery-powered string lights was a bit of an experiment but we had some fun, and kept drivers whizzing through Echo on their toes at night!

We were honored to work with AARCH on our latest milking barn renovation — our farm has benefitted from this collaboration, keeping the integrity of historical barns and buildings in our communities. We can't thank them enough! 🐄

AARCH believes that helping people preserve their historic structures contributes to thriving communities. Initiatives like our Adirondack Rural Revitalization Program do just that, funding capital rehabilitation projects that foster community vibrancy and enhance a sense of place in our region’s community and agrarian centers.

We have stocked the farm store with yummy items we grew and are thankful for!
While we do not have an overflow, with random food items, we have curated a few perfect additions to your Thanksgiving tables.

Being able to farm everyday is a gift, and we are excited to share with our neighborhood!

Our farm store promise will always be that it’s all grown or raised here! … or you’ll know about it!
And our veggies are better than organic, no Giroux doo here.
