Happy Mothers’ Day!

5-10 update:

We are starting the morning off with 7 cleaved embryos by Areybe using an ICSI volume of fresh semen and cIVF! Hoping these will develop into healthy, high quality, extra sticky, transferable embryos.

5-6 update:

This is the stage that makes me the most nervous so faršŸ˜¬ā€¦ Of the two embryos that checked safe last week, we have a definite heartbeat on one, recip 1253 is on the right track, but nowhere near the finish line yet. The other, carried by recip 442, had a questionable heartbeat today, so that doesn’t sound good since that is how the last check went before we lost the pregnancy. However, I am still thinking very positively about this embryo because it was transferred one day later than the first, making this a 24 day check, not a 25. I believe heartbeat is usually first detected between days 24-26, so there is definitely still hope that it is doing the right things! Praying these guys attach, thrive, and hit the ground running next spring!

Update on our venture😜:

Our 19yo mare ā€œJoā€ gave us 21 oocytes today, compared to 12 on the last round! We have decided to try something new to us and pretty dang new to the industry as well. We will be using cIVF instead of ICSI. For this process we will use a very small volume of semen, the same dose used for the ICSI procedure, to fertilize these oocytes. I was fortunate to line the aspiration up with Areybe’s collection day, which is tomorrow, so we will overnight fresh semen to In Foal, where it will be used first thing Thursday. Although the conception rate on the ICSI embryos seems to be pretty good overall, the early cIVF embryo retention rate seems to be much higher. I’m excited about this cross! Hoping for the best.

It’s still very very early, but things are off to a good start! Hoping for the best, that both of these little things keep chugging along and keep doing the right thingsšŸ™‚šŸ™. I will feel much better when we get to day 60!

The second embryo did its thing and is ready for transferšŸ™Œ! It will be transferred today! Hopefully one or both of these will result in a healthy foal(s)šŸ™.

4-18 update:
As of this morning we have one high quality embryo that is ready to transferšŸ‘! It will be transferred today. There is one more embryo that is showing potential, so we are hoping it also develops into a high quality, transferable embryo. Whether we get one or two, let’s hope this results in a healthy foal or two on the ground! Either way, we are thankful for the opportunity to learn a new process. I will post the other embryo if/when it develops!

4-14 update

Of the 8 oocytes that were injected, 5 have cleaved šŸ™Œ and are doing the right thing so far. We don’t expect all of these 5 to make viable embryos, but they could. We will know a little more in a few daysšŸ‘.

*Update for anyone interested*
Of the 12 oocytes we aspirated last Wednesday, 8 were injected on Friday. We don’t expect all of the fertilized eggs to mature to viable embryos, but we are hoping that some do!

We have been working on something a little different around here lately! I didn’t post about it earlier because I didn’t want to jinx it, but we are on round two now so here we go. Pictured here are 12 oocytes from my favorite mare, Jo(CC Shiny Dually), and two studs we have secured contracts on for 2026. Like many others, Laura is a huge fan of the yellow stud Adios Pantalones,so for Christmas I got her a contract so she can try to make her own little Adios baby. We are using ICSI (Intracytoplasmic s***m injection) to fertilize these eggs. If you aren’t familiar with the process and are interested in repro go check it out, it’s pretty cool stuff! The eggs that make the cut on Friday will be injected with a single s***m cell and incubated for 7-10 days. From there we will transfer and possibly freeze any resulting embryos from that mating.

Once we are done with that, we will be doing the same process but this time we will be taking her to Areybe, a Stevie Rey Von x Stylish Play Lena son that I am pretty excited about.

In our first round, we didn’t have quite as many oocytes to work with and transferred one Adios x Jo embryo that resulted in a pregnancy that was viable for close to 35 days before that pregnancy was lost.

I thought some of y’all might be interested in the process since it’s a little different than what we do in the cattle industry. Hoping for the best on the next attempts!
