I haven't posted any cute dog or calf photos in a bit... This photo is bittersweet. I found this calf lying off in the pasture by itself and unable to stand on its own when it was about 10 days old. It had been healthy a couple days earlier, but apparently the calf's mama - a first year heifer - hasn't quite figured out the whole motherhood thing, and the calf wasn't getting fed. I moved it near the corral, but when mama and the rest of the herd wandered off for evening grazing, Magpie lay down to keep it company. We bottle-fed the calf for the next couple of days to see if it would regain its strength, but sadly it didn't make it.

This week's pesto was made with garlic scapes! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜ I hadn't ever tried that before, but it's sure yummy. Which is good, because I made about 3 quarts of pesto๐Ÿ˜ฎ!

The tomatoes are coming! Tennis-ball-size Big Beef on the left and the first two sungolds ready to harvest. This variety of sungolds (from Johnny's) are larger than I'm used to - nearly golf ball size - but just as sweet as the little ones!

Some transitions happening in the garden... The daikon radishes I planted back in February bolted in April and produced a gorgeous spray of blossoms that helped bring early pollinators into the high tunnel. We pulled those out last week and planted more carrots. And on the other wall, that one dill w**d we let go to seed last year? Well, now it's a forest crowding out the onions! We'll be hacking most of it out this week. And finally - the peas are done (just too hot), so we'll be pulling those out and planting pole beans this week. It's the circle/cycle of life!

This is some of the produce we delivered to Roots Farm Cafe in Tijeras on Thursday. When I stopped by there last Sunday morning, Daniel handed me a paper cup filled with an amazing veggie curry, which included the cabbage, cauliflower, peas, & snow peas that we had delivered last week. As I ate it on the drive into ABQ, it gave me joy to think of the many happy customers who would be enjoying the curry for lunch!
