Tropical Depression/Storm activity here at Belle Terre Farm. Slicing the remaining turmeric roots from the winter harvest. These will be dried for tea and making more fresh ground turmeric.

We are new grandparents as of March 17, 2026. So we now balance our apothecary practices, farm and garden chores, and the amazing wonders of the new little life presented to us.

Bayou-Diversity (14 June 2026) Hardwood giants reigned supreme on the ridges of north Louisiana swamps until the rake of crosscut saws reduced their tight annular rings to a lifeless commodity. Large sweetgums such as this one were called "red gums" because of the carmine tint of the heartwood. The logs were quarter-sawn and veneered to become the cabinets of Singer sewing machines and the paneling of woody station wagons so that we might experience progress. But at what cost? On land that once grew the massive trees along with a rich diversity of associated flora and fauna, Meta’s Hyperion AI data center now rises from the same fertile soil.

Fresh ground turmeric is now available from Belle Terre Farm. These cute cork top bottles are made from recycled glass, are 4” tall and contain a little over 1 oz (dry weight) of fresh ground turmeric root.

The turmeric is grown here using natural methods, hand harvested, air dried, then ground into a coarse powder, peeling included.

Great gift idea for that adventurous cook we all know 😉

Rainey morning harvest before the thunderstorms, again. Three days in a row with rain makes things a bit messy on the farm.

The chickens, turkeys, and livestock guardian dogs are less than enthusiastic about our current weather situation.

We now have four beehives at Belle Terre Farm. The hive on the far right has been here since 2020 and we harvest honey from it each summer. The other three colonies are young but one has already needed a honey super added (second from right) so they are doing very well. We recently (last week) added the other two but they are very busy already.

Another pawpaw day here at Belle Terre Farm. Today we made pawpaw ice cream. We are using up the fresh frozen pawpaws from last fall harvest to make space for this year’s harvest.

These pawpaws did not come from BTF but they are local from a well established family farm. All processing was done here at Belle Terre Farm, and we used local dairy products and local raw cane sugar. Very tasty indeed.
