Fresh from the garden sweet basil pesto was the project today at Belle Terre Farm. Sizes available are 4 oz jars for $7 and 8 oz jars for $10. This is a perishable product and made in small batches to retain freshness.

We did experiment making pesto without nuts. This modified recipe will be tested and will be available, if there is interest.

A few of each size will be on hand at Home on Magnolia Hill in Clinton. You can always stop by the farm to get yours, just get in touch.

In the name of research y’all, have some cake 😋

Those tiny air pockets and soft texture inside your favorite slice actually have a name—the crumb!

Bakers use “crumb” to describe the internal texture and structure of a cake. A fine, even crumb usually means a soft, tender bite, while other cakes are meant to have a more open or dense crumb.

Now you have the perfect excuse to examine your next slice VERY closely. You know… for research. 😉

Comfrey has been used since the early ages for wound treatment and its main constituent, allantoin, promotes new cell growth. This salve is a wonderful anti-inflammatory and helps ease swollen joints and lower back pain.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) ground cover. My search for herbal groundcovers spreads to yarrow, which makes a cushy mat good for covering the soil between rows of medicinals, good for. . . bare feet. Stays green even under the snow. Attracts pollinators, repels pests. We have several options in white-flowered medicinal yarrows, including wild seed, organic seed and plants.

Heal thyself. Had the pleasure of knowing the late Jim Duke, PhD, who was famous for reporting the constituent structure of herbs.
