Truth!
Yes, I drink my jerseys raw milk!!! I have for the better part of my life and my children have since infancy. Because I am a dairy producer I was awarded that choice. No offense, but pasteurized milk tastes funny to me and I can’t drink it. I’d compare it to the difference in taste between raw broccoli and steamed. It still tastes like broccoli but the flavor and food value isn’t the same.
I was recently interviewed by a journalist writing an article regarding raw milk sales in the state of New Jersey. She had many questions regarding my cows and thoughts on the benefits of raw milk consumption and its sales for farmers. I have to say that I find the topic of raw milk to be very ironic, because in a nation so adamant about having the “right to choose,” why don’t you also fight for your right to choose what foods you can purchase?!?!? You have the choice to smoke ci******es or drink alcohol. You have the choice to eat raw shellfish and seafood. You have the choice to have any number of shots and consume endless pharmaceuticals. Ma*****na has been decriminalized. but purchasing fresh cows milk is against the law?????
The journalist then asked me if I thought that legalizing raw milk sales would affect regular sales of dairy products. In my opinion I said absolutely not! Raw cows milk is a niche market, not everyone is looking for it and not everyone is interested in it. There are plenty of people to feed without costing other dairy farmers business. In closing she asked me why I thought our state government stands so firmly against this. I’m sure many of you won’t like my answer, but I believe it’s about control! Whoever controls the food system controls the people! Also it’s the smaller dairy farms that have the biggest interest in selling their products directly. The self-sufficient American farmer that can live off the land and feed themselves. The government needs to maintain some sort of control over its people. Control the self-sufficient and control the food system. It is much easier to control and regulate larger dairies as 100% compliance is essential to their livelihood.
