Yesterday Scott and I moved our first hive to the farm. This was a tree that was cut down that had a colony living in it. The bees were found on a branch not to far and were moved to a box. This log will be left here to hopefully attract and re-home another swarm.

Scott has been hammering the swarms! This one just swarmed and is moving into the box.

This is a video of a swarm transfer we did last week. This was a small one and should have been put in a smaller box. There was also a sighting of the queen!

We transferred a small swarm from a bait hive. This probably should have gone into a 5 frame Nuc, unfortunately we did not have one with us at the time.

Anyone missing a cat?😂😂😂We saw this guy on the way out to drop off a hive at one of the yards.

Yesterday Scott took a video of us doing walk away splits. This will hopefully prevent swarming and also create a new colony if they successfully create a new queen in the split.

Shaking bees down for a walk away split

Every day is an adventure in the bee yard. What you see here is a swarm leaving one of my hives. About an hour earlier I inspected this hive and found a queen cell. When I touched it the cap came off and a new queen emerged and ran down into the box below. Not knowing exactly what to do in that moment I closed it up and went about my other inspections. Luckily this swarm moved into a swarm trap we have set up a little ways away.

Update on swarm season 2026. The first swarm came to the catcher last Monday 6April26.
Scott reported another catch yesterday bringing our total to 2 so far! We are off to a good start! Thanks Scott for running the trap line this year!
