“A blend of Syrah and Pinot Noir, the 2018 Grand Cheval has a deep ruby color and takes some time in the glass to offer scents of black cherries, aniseed, iron, coffee beans and grilled meats. The medium-bodied palate has concentrated, mineral-laced fruit, an abundance of grainy tannins, fresh aci...

“Smooth and refined, a velvety wine with raspberry, sweet leather and bouillon flavors that swirl through the fine-grained finish and last nicely.”

“The aromas are stony, with hints of English hawthorne, pear skin and lanolin. The palate is sleek, with bright notes of early-season pear, apricot, a touch of lemon curd, and a petrichor-driven mineral note that carries the finish.”

Easter weekend and wine tasting. There's nothing better...

We have no information on this wine but someone 20 years a go bought some and we are pulling it our of the cellar to see what is going on with it. Other vintages of this wine have scored 90 to 92 points from Wine Advocate. This vintage scored 18/20 points but we do not know who that score is from.

“Nose: strawberry, funky sous-bois, balsamic; with time developing black currant and rose hips. Very nice. P: Balsamic, caramel, wonderful balance of sweetness and acid. Still a little grippy, but tannins nearly resolved. Lovely sweetness on the finish. Excellent.”

“Elegant and intense red fruits with flavors that offer essence of pinot and the acidity is a little edgier here than in the first two wines. The flavors are quite elegant and there is plenty of pinot sap with excellent length and balance.”

“A wonderfully complete wine that speaks with great eloquence... Plums, prunes, violets, flowers, spices, menthol, tar, smoke, incense and minerals are just some of the notes that can be found in this exotic, sensual beauty.”

“This has fabulous richness and depth in its honeysuckle, tangerine, white flowers and buttered almond-like aromas and flavors. It too shows the freshness and purity of the vintage, with integrated, yet juicy acidity, good concentration and serious length.”
