Part 2: Why predator-proofing is so important!

Last time it was a fox. This time, it’s two raccoons.

Watch them crawl all over the tractor, looking for a way to get to the Silkies. They’re checking every angle, climbing, reaching, and doing exactly what raccoons do best: looking for weaknesses.

And that’s exactly why predator-proofing matters.

Predators don’t give up just because they can’t get in on the first try. They’ll climb, dig, pull, pry, and keep testing your setup.

The good news? These two were just as unsuccessful as the fox was.

Meanwhile, the Silkies slept right through the whole thing. 😂

Y’all, I woke up to this alert on my cameras and just laughed.

Why?

Because we’re confident in the steps we’ve taken to protect our birds.

THIS is exactly why predator-proofing is SO important. Look how close that fox is to our Silkies! LESS THAN inches away. But despite being that close, he can’t get to them.

So while Mr. Fox was busy plotting his next move, I just rolled right back over and went back to sleep…

Just like the Silkies. 😂

Today is my husband and I’s 6th wedding anniversary. ❤️

While we’ve been married for 6 years today, we’ve actually been together for 12, and we’ve been through a lot together during that time.

Most of you don’t see him very often because I’ve been the face of Happy Feet Hatchery, but Jason deserves some time in the spotlight today.

He has built every coop on this farm, supported every idea I’ve ever had, and stood beside me through every challenge, setback, and goal along the way. He has been a huge part of this business from the very beginning, and Happy Feet simply wouldn’t be what it is today without him.

We got married right here on our farm during COVID, and looking back, I can’t imagine getting married anywhere else. This farm has been the backdrop for so much of our life together, and it holds some of our favorite memories.

We probably won’t be doing anything super fancy to celebrate. The birds still need feeding, the farm still needs tending, and today will probably look a lot like tomorrow. But honestly, I wouldn’t want to be doing any of it with anyone else.

Happy Anniversary to the most amazing man I know. Thank you for 12 incredible years together, 6 years of marriage, and for being my best friend through it all.

I love you, Jason. ❤️
