Great communities are supported by great people. Thanks for being supportive of us and all businesses like us. Looking forward to more shared stories in the future.
What happens when a local sweet shop in a town of 400 invites every purple-ribbon winner from the community fair to stop in for free gelato?
You get more than 50 purple-ribbon winners, plenty of gelato and a sweet reminder that in small-town Nebraska, one person’s accomplishment is something the whole community celebrates.
Gal & Goat Creamery in Eustis, invited winners from the Eustis Fair & Corn Show to bring in their ribbon, share the story behind their winning entries and enjoy a scoop of house-made gelato on the house.
Kids and open-class exhibitors of all ages showed up to share stories about their cows, chickens, rabbits and more.
“At one time, we had more than 35 people standing around sharing their stories, excited to see one another and waiting for their turn at the gelato case,” Gal & Goat shared. “It was a great atmosphere that day, seeing the community celebrating one another.”
For Gal & Goat owner Tracey Keifer, the idea is personal. When she moved to Eustis eight years ago, she quickly saw that the fair was a cornerstone of the community. Tracey entered the fair herself — and even earned grand champion — gaining a firsthand understanding of the many hours of work behind every ribbon.
Now in its second year, Gal & Goat Creamery has made this a new tradition.
Gal & Goat is already preparing for its next community gathering: the Gal & Goat Fall Garlic Festival on September 19, featuring garlic products, vendors, treats, drinks and gelato.
And for some of these purple-ribbon winners, the celebration may just be getting started. Qualifying exhibitors will advance to the Nebraska State Fair , August 28 Nebraska State Fair. Hope to see you there!
