WHEN FOOD MEETS PUBLIC HEALTH, COMMUNITIES GROW STRONGER.

At Ebony Tree Farms (ETF), we believe that food is more than nourishment. Food is a catalyst for social change.

We are proud to see our work featured by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, where ETF installed a hydroponic growing system to support medical students’ efforts to grow fresh produce for community health initiatives.

This partnership represents something bigger than a growing system. It reflects what is possible when agriculture, medical education, and community engagement come together with a shared commitment to health and wellness.

Through this initiative, medical students can grow fresh vegetables and herbs for community health events, support nutrition education, and explore the connection between what we eat and how we live. The system also creates opportunities to integrate fresh produce into culinary medicine education.

This is what we mean when we say food is the nexus point for social change.

At Ebony Tree Farms, we are building more than growing systems. We are helping cultivate opportunities for communities to access fresh food, learn about nutrition, and experience innovative approaches to improving health and well-being.

From underserved communities to institutions educating tomorrow’s healthcare professionals, we believe controlled environment agriculture can be part of a broader solution—connecting food access, education, public health, and community resilience.

Grow food. Cultivate knowledge. Nourish communities. Change lives.

The Tree Was Never Just a Logo.

Last night, Ebony Tree Farms held our third Women’s Wellness Focus Group in Thomson, Georgia—and something powerful happened.

We built a community tree.

Not a perfect tree.
Not a tree designed in advance.
A tree shaped by the women in the room.

They added the things they believe make a community healthy, connected, safe and whole: faith, family, education, safety, recreation, transportation, healthy families, walking trails, access to resources, socialization, encouragement, prayer, connection and so much more.

And as I stood back and looked at that tree, I realized something:

Our Ebony Tree Farms logo has always carried deeper meaning than a logo.

The roots represent the foundation—the people, history, relationships, values and systems that sustain us.

The trunk represents the strength and infrastructure necessary to hold a community together.

And the branches and leaves represent what becomes possible when people have the opportunity to grow, connect, thrive and contribute.

That is Ebony Tree Farms.

Our mission is social change at the nexus point of food and public health. But we know that health doesn’t exist in isolation.

You cannot talk about healthy food without talking about transportation.

You cannot talk about nutrition without talking about economic opportunity.

You cannot talk about wellness without talking about safe places to live, walk, gather and connect.

You cannot talk about public health without listening to the people who live the experience.

The community told us what their tree needs to look like.

And that is why our work is not simply about growing food.

It is about growing capacity.

Growing knowledge.

Growing connection.

Growing opportunity.

Growing healthier communities from the roots up.

Last night reminded me that our logo wasn’t simply something we created for Ebony Tree Farms.

In many ways, it was a picture of the work before we even fully understood how deeply the roots would grow.

The tree is the metaphor.
The community is the soil.
And the people are the reason we grow.
