Chicken of the Week!
Meet Millie!
Born: June 11, 2024
Breed: Mille Fluer d’Uccle Bantam
She is one of my smallest chickens, and the best mom ever! In the past two years, she has adopted every chick I have given her. This year she was able to hatch her own 4 chicks, and then additionally adopted 9 chicks that were hatched by a first grade class. Last year she did not hatch any chicks, but she was so broody (sitting on eggs faithfully trying to hatch them) that I ended up giving her two chicks from Rural King, that she adopted instantly! Another hen (Bella) also managed to hatch 6 babies, and Millie was trying to steal them! The two mothers ended up co-parenting. I gave them about 24 chicks that were hatched by the first grade class, and she successfully adopted all of them! She’s been the most protective and caring mother, often staying with her chicks way past the point when they need her to! She’s very curious and likes to come over to see what I’m up to.
She’s an absolute cutie patootie!

What’s with the name?

That’s what you might be thinking!
Boot Scootin’ Butt Nuggets is definitely a funny name!

It all started years ago, when I stated going Line Dancing with my dad, back in 2020. I fell in love with it! Dad and I would go almost every Tuesday night, and to this day we still do!

At that time, I had a small flock.
People at Line Dancing knew I had chickens (I wonder if all my chicken shirts gave it away?), and one day someone asked if they could buy eggs from me.
That was my first egg sale!

I started bringing a few dozen eggs with me to line dancing, to sell to some of the amazing people there!
I was asked if I had a name yet for my “egg business” (if you could call it that!)

I thought on it for a while.
I wanted something Line Dancing related, and Boot Scooting Boogie came up.
I also know some people call eggs “butt nuggets”.

After throwing some names around with some friends, I settled on “Victoria’s Boot Scootin’ Butt Nuggets”!

Not only is it humorous and funny, but I think it perfectly fits my flock!
