Ugh.... not everything goes as planned..... Our little guy born last week hit the ground running...., but stopped on day 2. He crashed. HARD. Falling over, couldn't walk, then couldn't stand. Called the vet. She felt it was glucose... Gave Karo syrup, nothing. Called Dr Barb from Country Vet, she was willing to see him, but she was at their 2nd office, set up for small animals only. Grabbed plasma from the freezer, antibiotics from the cupboard, and away we went. His protein wasn't terrible, but since the plasma was thawing, he got it. All his vitals were good, white cell count good... He got fluids and an antibiotic, but nothing stood out. Got him home, perkier, then.... he pooped. A LOT. (He had, had an e***a and mecomium was passed already). It was the orangy cria color, but there was a ton! Four times! At this point , he started bouncing around and acting normal again. Seem to be going well until his mother then decided to reject him from nursing. There is science that shows if a young animal becomes constipated or blocked, they will start to admit a smell that will cause the mother to reject them. I Think this happened to our little guy. It has taken me the last three days, working with him and his mother for him to accept him again! I am thankful that she is back to thinking he is the coolest thing on the block, and he was able to gain a full pound in the last twenty four hours... just when you think you've seen everything.......
