Our breeding program has been working to refine a select collection of genetics since 2009.

The first of five Registered Breeders in the nation.
The first Registered breeder east of the Mississippi.
The first breeder to secure Kunekune Preserve genetics in 2010 diversifying the Enright import with a much needed outcross.
…. The first to secure genetics from the Long Island Kunekune Pigs import from Great Britain —the beginning of Black Valley Farm Rebecca Ginas.

The first to hold a national sanctioned show.
The first to secure a Grand Champion animal.
And the second….

And the rest is history …still in the making.

It’s the favorite part of my identity.
Raising hogs.
It’s taken me to England… to California, to New York, to North Carolina.

My herd is an expression of over a decade of dedication with a dash of obsession…. I love the inner workings of breeding with purpose.
Studying genetics intrigues me—deeply.

The Black Valley herd is a closed herd.
A line bred herd.

And we’re proud of where we came from, how we got here, and where we currently stand!
Where we’re headed next…

So I’m ever so proud to announce yet another year of sifting through and offering a select handful of retained (slightly hoarded) stock.

They’re the special ones. 🐽

Reach out if you’d like!
We will be working with buyers individually as well as planning the first in-person Sale of Stock post Covid.

Happy Friday friends!

We spent the afternoon yesterday assessing our intermediate age stock.

These are some of my favorite moments as a breeder…. sentimentality creeps in.

Once upon a time when I first began groups of hogs like these were what we dreamed about….
Generations later.
Years of striving, breeding, waiting, refining, culling, retaining—and here we are.
Reliably producing what we set out to produce.
Hogs worth keeping.

We’re working on choosing a date for the first in-person sale we’ve hosted post-Covid.
A visit to our cottage piggery.
A tour.
And the chance to make a Black Valley Farm or Kunekune Preserve pig a part of your herd! 🐽

Happy Thursday friends

BVF Rebecca Gina “Dalwinnie Royle” gilt.

This gilt is maturing beautifully!

Black Valley Farm is known for our Rebecca Gina genetics.
The most prominent sow line within our herd.
We have been producing from this British imported line since the first litter produced on USA soil by Susan Drake of Long Island Kunekunes.

This gilt represents the fourth generation of Black Valley Rebecca Gina and represents years of strategic breeding.

If you’re looking for a production line known for innate mothering, large litter sizes and cemented genetic reliability—

Sired by BVF Boris “Umbrous Noir”.

We also have newly farrowed litters on the ground out of BVF Rebecca Gina “Persephone” and BVF Rebecca Gina “Dalwinnie” with both boars and gilts available!
