We are pleased to offer this gilt as part of our Fall Catalog of Sale.

She represents the flash and presence of her sire KKP Mahia Love Red Rum while solidly resting in the linage of her dam — BVF Rebecca Gina Bathsheba.
Black Valley is know for its Rebecca Gina bloodline. Drawing attention both in production circles as well as the show ring— offering proven reliability while contributing beautifully poised sows to breeding programs all across the nation.

This will be the final gilt offered out of BVF Rebecca Gina Bathsheba as she enters retirement at the ripe old age of eleven. Our beautiful cream sow has earned her keep.
I’m looking forward to the years she has left as my constant companion.

Please reach out via PM or call /text blackvalleymama at 406-599-9797

When your sows have decided that having litters together is living their best life—
Welcome this darling pile of perfection from BVF Sally GiGi.

She brought our litter count to six.
Last night her best friend BVF Wilsons Gina ‘Pippin’ brought our count to seven! 🐽

Our Valley is fully alive with the gift of life that never fails to remind me how magical this experience actually is….

Our next round of feeder animals are weaned, castrated and ready to find new pastures to make way for the next wave of babies.

If you’re not a pig keeper —are you actually living?!?

We’ve welcomed back to back litters —
Yesterday BVF Kereopa ‘Duvet’ farrowed her first litter out of KKP Tutanaki ‘Edgar Allen Poe’.

AND today BVF Wilsons Gina ‘Miss Moffett’ farrowed out of BVF Ru ‘Earl Gray’.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve farrowed creams and we’re pleased as punch to creams in both litters.

The weather has been gorgeous! The days slow.
And we’re soaking up the moments while we wait for KKP Wilsons Gina ‘Nanny McPhee’ to welcome her litter….

We have the next round of feeder animals and weaned stock available friends!!

Happy Wednesday from Black Valley!

Our Bathsheba babies…..
Watching this sow mother her final litter has me feeling all the feels. 🖤

She’s been such a sweet and dependable part of our piggery for the last eight years.
She was born her and she will spend the rest of her days on the pastures she knows so well.

I think perhaps a daughter may stay to keep her company.

Happy Friday friends!!

The weather is glorious!
There’s babies all about…. Im soaking in every single drop of contentment!

This year.
My seventeenth year of keeping pigs—
Has been very different.

Partially because life as both a farmer and restauranteur has permanently altered the patterns of the day-to-day…. Partially because the economic landscape is different ….
Perhaps, maybe, because we’re all seeking something that’s harder and harder to find—balance and purpose.

There are so many voices amongst the groups and forums that have popped up dedicated to our breed.
Declaring vehemently that THIS IS THE WAY…
Poised and ready to instruct and mentor and guide— anyone that they can reach.

I’ve been sitting, mostly quietly, knowing and recognizing that trends and times all flow by …but I do want to say:
…in our small corner of life. Nothing is ever ‘always’ and ‘never’. No ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ exist.
Intuition, humanity, humility, necessity…productivity and purpose—these are the guardrails of successful pig keeping.
We’ve lived a bit. And built some dreams.

Black Valley Farm is still standing strong.
We’re not ‘selling out’.
Nor are we ‘goin’ big’ at the moment.
…we’re sustaining.
A farm, a family, a restaurant, a breed, our sister herd, Kunekune Preserve, hand-in-hand with Cyndi Berry.

If pigs seem right for you, if you’re in the market.
We’re just here.
Hoeing our own row!

…we invest as little or as much time into mentoring you as you please. We’ll cheer you on for sure.

The Kunekune breed is our life’s passion.
…if you feel it should be yours as well—we’ve pigs to sell.

Happy Thursday friends!
Cheers to everyone out there living the day-to-day and keeping their chins up!
Pigs help! 🐽
