Holt Cattle Holt Cattle breeds, raises and sells full-blood Wagyu cattle. Wagyu cattle are known their marbling ablility (intra-muscular fat cells) and calving ease.

The Wagyu Breed was originally developed in Japan for use as draft animals, selected for their physical endurance. This physicality made for a more flavorful and therefore more desirable animal, as it contained additional intra-muscular fat cells. Additionally, Wagyu beef is chemically different from traditional beef breeds. Research shows that the beef from long-fed Wagyu cattle naturally contain

s more Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, as well as more monounsaturated fatty acids (the good fat) than other beef. The percentage of fatty acids affect the texture and โ€œfeelโ€ of food in the mouth, particularly in meats. This is one of the genetic benefits of the Wagyu breed and one of the reasons why Wagyu beef is regarded as the finest, most exclusive beef produced in the world. This marbling ability and chemical composition of the fat provides for the unique flavor experience and health benefits that come when Wagyu beef is eaten. Another major advantage of the Wagyu breed is the extreme calving ease that they bring when cross bred to traditional European beef breeds. The small birth weights of the Wagyu calves has made using Wagyu bulls to breed Angus heifers a popular trend that is being employed by commercial Angus cattleman. The calves (F1 offspring) from this cross are born without assistance, have the health advantage of hybrid vigor and yield excellent carcass grades and meat quality, due to the Wagyu influence.

Mt. Baker Veterinary has a date set for their class on Osteoarthritis and joint health!

We (Dr. Holt and Jessica Holt) are so excited about this class.

First, I need you to know that through the equine industry and attending continued education courses we have got to build relationships and friendships with some of the most amazing people. These individuals are at the top of the game in equine medicine. We feel privileged that they would choose to be our friends and take the time to have dinners with us at the meetings we attend.

Jessica Morris with Dechra offered to sponsor this class for us. Jessica along with Dr. J.D. Conway, DVM, will be here. Jessica is flying in from California and Dr. Conway is flying in from Texas to do this for us!

A little bit about Dr. Conway
James D. Conway III, DVM is the Equine Professional Services Veterinary Manager with Dechra Veterinary Products. Prior to his role with Dechra he served as an associate veterinarian at a large regional referral lameness and rehab facility in N. Texas. Additionally, Dr. Conway was a part time veterinary field consultant with Bimeda Pharmaceuticals and Arthrodynamics Technologies from 2013-2017. Dr. Conway completed an internship at ESMS in 2013 and upon completion started his own lameness and sports medicine practice in the panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma. He is a 2012 graduate of Colorado State University Veterinary School where he was heavily involved with equine stifle and condylar fracture research. Dr. Conway has been invited to speak at numerous clinics and universities in the US, Canada and Mexico and at the ACVS and AAEP national conferences. His publications can be found in the Equine Veterinary Journal and Equine Veterinary Education

We are looking forward to helping you understand all about your horses' joints. Dr. Conway will cover a wide topic of joint pain, osteoarthritis and treatments. Dechra also has some exciting new medications to talk about that may help your horse.

Bring your pen and paper. This class will be FUN AND FULL of information!!
