I have been seeing Ag pages sharing great reminders for people to be patient and mindful when following farm equipment down the road.

What is beyond frustrating is reading the comments.

"Isn't it illegal?"
"Can't they just trailer it?"
"It's a hazard."

Everytime I have to drive equipment down our highway I am constantly alert for the impatient drivers. The person who passes on a double yellow going into a corner.

Here's the deal people. Farmers have been farming where they are for multiple decades, some more than a century. They didn't move into your neighborhood. YOU moved into theirs. Farm land is shrinking at an alarming rate to make way for your housing developments. Meanwhile farmers go about their business busting their butts. Driving the same roads they have for generations.

Farmers are working their tails off during weather windows to plant and harvest crops. They are growing your food.

Maybe next time you get behind a tractor or piece of farm equipment take a second to ponder what they grow that you pick up at the grocery store. And instead of being frustrated, try focusing on patience and consideration for the people growing your food.

IT'S GETTING TO BE "REAL" SPRING, and as a gentle reminder to new folks in the community, when you see our food producer's running equipment down the road, slow down your speed a touch, watch for turning equipment, and keep an eye out when passing. Let's show as much patience for these fine folks as they show when growing their crops. It's one small way we can help them help the world!
