Our Story

Thompson Farms is the result of 5 generations working and living on one piece of ground. Originally purchased by Thomas Cottier for his son, James Curtis Cottier in 1884, the farm has been handed down through 5 generations. Much has changed over the past 130 years. Originally the farm included orchards, livestock including dairy, beef and swine production. Through the years row cropping became more profitable and the livestock were sold off and the pastures replaced by fields of corn and soybeans. A love of wildlife and conservation endured and "odd areas" that most would consider waste were preserved. With the help of the Continuing Conservation Reserve Program native grass filter strips have been installed around the field borders and along Squaw Creek to enhance and protect habitat and protect the water resource. We are proud of the way the farm is operated today. Although we don't have the quantity of commercial animals the farm once produced, we are establishing herds of livestock that are suited for small farms and conserving resources.
