Good morning our friends and faithful customers! The farm stand is open today until 6 pm or the snow makes it unsafe. Whichever comes first. We will be closed tomorrow, Monday. We will reopen Tuesday once we finish plowing and I will post again at that time. If you are looking for last minute fill ins and don't want the line at the grocery store, we've got you covered. Potatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms, beets and carrots, everything you need for a great pot of stew plus so much more. Eggs too. And as an added bonus, we have girl scout cookies, a comfort food favorite! I'm sure we will all need comfort food during this storm!

If you are a plow person, the stand will be unlocked and the light on. There is a bathroom in the back room. I plowed for enough years to know that a place to go on the back roads without sitting in a snowbank is a luxury, especially in a blizzard. We will be doing our best to keep a path open and our greenhouses safe. So give a wave when you go by, we are in this together.

So every year I kind of fall off the wagon when it comes to posting on Facebook - the same way everyone seems to fall off the wagon about their commitment to shopping in farm stands! I get it. Its cold, its dark, and who wants to eat a salad in the winter when they can have comfort food instead. But...its that time of year again!!! Comfort food aka GIRL SCOUT COOKIES are now available in the farm stand! Including the new one - (and its yummy - we had to try it) And...because we like to be guilt free...we have fresh picked SALAD GREENS available too, along with all your other farm stand favorites from eggs and cheese to beets and carrots! Open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Remember, we are an honor box farm stand so bring cash or a check. Cookies are $6 a box this year. Thanks so much and looking forward to seeing you soon!

Thank you to whoever left this lovely poinsettia in the farm stand yesterday. What a wonderful surprise. I am admittedly not the best decorator for the holidays so simple things like this make my day. THANK YOU!

As some of you may know, my mom passed away last March. This week would have been her birthday. So, in remembrance, I wanted to share with you her pumpkin pie recipe. By far the best in her repertoire. It takes a little time but is so worth it. The filling can also be made ahead of time and frozen. Then just thaw, pour in your favorite pie crust and bake. (Hers was Oranoak Orchards frozen crust which she would carefully press the edges of with a fork so no one would know it wasn’t from scratch)
Start by cooking your pumpkin – split in half, remove the seeds and inner strings. Cut into quarters and place skin side up in a roasting pan. Add a little water. Cover with aluminum foil and slice a steam vent. Bake at 350 until the pumpkin is fork tender – about 30-45 minutes. Let cool, them scoop out the pumpkin flesh from the skin and mash.
2 ½ c cooked pumpkin
2 cups brown sugar (dark is best)
3 cups whole milk
2 Tablespoons flour
2 Tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon each ginger, cinnamon and salt
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon each ground allspice and ground nutmeg
2 eggs
1. Mix all dry ingredients.
2. Add cooked pumpkin.
3. Heat milk very hot (not boiling) and add to dry ingredients
4. Cool!!!
5. Add beaten eggs
6. Run filling through a blender!!! Or you will get a lumpy pie like I did the first time I made this for my now husband – I was mortified, thankfully he said he “liked it like that”. It tasted fine but was lumpy.
7. Carefully fill your pie crust about 5 ladles for a regular pie and 6-7 for a deep-dish pie
8. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees until a knife comes out clean.
Recipe makes 2 pies – 1 regular and 1 deep dish.

Awesome job guys!!!

Exeter, you ROCK!!!! Thank you for your generosity. Over 2700 pounds of food collected today for the Exeter food pantry! (Picture shows just a small portion)Also, if you got missed or would still like to donate, food can be dropped off at Our Kids Farm 555, Gardner Road, Exeter. ( that is our scout masters farm), and we will get it to the food bank. We had 4 scouts able to do collections today and we did our best. With over 2500 households in town, we couldn't get to everyone. Again, thank you for your support and generosity and thank you to the parents and volunteers who helped us out! If you or someone you know would like to join troop 45, our next meeting is at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 5th at the Exeter #1 fire station on route 102.

Sharing on behalf of Troop 45 Exeter, RI. We are a scouting for food drop off site. Troop 45 is a small troop and does not have the manpower to get to every house in Exeter. Trust me - they didn't miss you and if you would like to donate, we will have collection boxes in the farm stand. This is the major food collection event that supports the Exeter Food Bank. All donations stay in town and directly benefit our residents. Thank you for your support.
