We are so grateful to our 20 CSA customers who picked up this delicious first box of the season! The common thread of comments was how much they loved our use of other local produce while ours continues to grow. We had Betsy's Stand asparagus in everyone’s favorite pasta salad, her spinach in the lasagna, her cucumbers in the tzatziki AND rhubarb in a sweet finish for everyone’s basket!! Woodstock Creamery at Valleyside Farm delicious skyr is the main character in the tzatziki and their incredible ricotta for the lasagna. Wandering Whisk co. Made a beautiful sandwich loaf! We made one gluten free customer so happy she about cried snuggling with the first loaf of bread she’d seen in years and she enjoyed her lasagna from cloud 9.

Want in? Need a dietary adjustment? Special pick up time? We got you!!!

Emersyn and I are heading to Ellington Farmers Market this morning with noodle bowls, lasagna, asparagus pasta salad and lots of Emmy Sauce!! This kid fully understand her cut in the business and harasses us for her payments, pick up some sauce today to send her to college later 🩷

The best of the best goes into tzatziki for this weeks’ kick off CSA basket!!
Skyr from Woodstock Creamery at Valleyside Farm and first of the season cucumbers 🥒 from Betsy's Stand mixed with a ton of fresh mint, dill and lemon. This refreshing condiment can be used as a dip, a topping or a spread on just about anything! A spoon works great too 😆

Wanna get in on the action? Sign up now at $90 per week for a prepared meal, some sort of baked good, fresh produce, a beefy something, and a variety of deliciousness from Thursday thru the end of October!

One might wonder how teachers are surviving now that the calendars have flipped to June. Well, we can answer how 20 minutes was spent in Emersyn’s classroom today… picking a name for her favorite cow’s bull calf born today 😆
You might remember being a part of naming mama 2 years ago when Emersyn wanted to name her Flamingo 🦩, we comprised on Mingo for short- but here she is with her first babe! We kicked it to Mrs. J to name him and she enlisted the class for a vote. Mrs. J loves herself some cheese 🧀 so of course, please welcome Manchego to the farm on his birthday!

T minus 10 days teachers- you’ve got this!! We’ve got more calves to pop so if you need a break, we’ll send the next babe your way to name 🤣

In 2007 I set up my table for the first time Coventry Farmers' Market. Since then I have been able to build a strong foundation for NBB to where we are today in a brick and mortar.

When we were applying for our business loans we needed to talk about our 1, 3, 5 & 10 year plans. Somewhere between the 3 and 5 year mark our goal was to phase out of farmers markets and have our customers come to us and be able to provide a much broader selection of product to you. It is a bittersweet moment, but at year 2 of The Kitchen, and what would be my 19th year, I will not be in my corner today at Coventry. I grew up there. I found my wife there (well she found me), Winnie grew up there, Jonathan attended his first market at 10 days old there. Our girls have been a fixture at the table since they could hold their heads up. Other market vendors have become our extended family and we wish them a rockin’ opening day in this beautiful sunshine!

Uncle Mitchel Colgan and Grandpa Paul, we will very much miss seeing you every Sunday, watching the kids swipe produce from your tables and catching up on the weeks events. We will bring the chaos by soon for a family day- something we haven’t done in many years 😆 you’ll hear us long before we cross the rock wall. ❤️

To our faithful customers, thank you. Thank you for the decades of support and choosing me. Thank you for building up my business so that I could make my dreams come true at the home farm, I wouldn’t be here without you, living my best life.

Pasture walks over the next couple of weeks are bound to show a new baby with about 20 mamas due. These heifers were snuggled in together this morning while mamas grabbed some nice grass in peace while the sun came up. It was a perfect start to yet another washout Saturday.

It’s Jonathan x2 today at Ellington Farmers Market and an estrogen fest at The Kitchen with Sarah, Emmy, June, Baker Brenna and D! With all the meat and sweets around, everyone is sure to be on their best behavior 😇

Let us never forget why today is important.
Everyday we should nod to our service members; those willing to stand in front of us to protect our rights as Americans.

But today, is for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. They went to war and never came home. They fought for our freedoms, our future, and our foundation. Today is not about catching a sale. It’s about remembering, respecting and giving thanks to those buried under our country’s flag.

All gave some.
Some gave all.

As soon as it stops snowing Sarah is in flip flops or barefoot. She does not care that there are dangerous things all over the farm, her feet are always dirty, her life is a daily gamble with tetanus and all sorts of other fun things. Do we think she’ll learn a lesson today for a flip flop slip n slide?
Oh look! The wambulance is already on its way 🤣

Please come visit The Kitchen and rescue us from eating 8 # of trifle and drowning in pasta salad.
