April in Alaska, it's pretty easy to get stuck in the mud... the skyrocketing of heating oil and utility prices in general certainly contributes. That aside, the first green shoots are a sight for sore eyes and all the possibility in a single seed, let alone the thousands we're starting to plant is just awesome. So we're taking this slow spring in stride and definitely wearing muck boots.

Tulips things are happening Fairbanks!... maybe or maybe not before the snow clears. 🌷

It's that beautiful sun-spot time of year when we can pair spring skiing and farm things! It's a time filled with the flurry of last adventures as well as the first shoots and roots. Tulips are growing, seeds are getting sowed, dahlias and anemones are waking up, and pups are properly stoked. When all this snow melts...one day... we'll be ready!

We're taking inspiration from lovely AK wedding photographer featured here with one of our favorite past wedding florals and invoking the timeless barter system! Floral arrangements might feel a little extravagant and out of budget, maybe most especially these days. Trading has long been the farmer way and I believe there is great value in exchanging goods and services when money is feeling tight.

Our farm is looking to expand and we are particularly interested in:
🌱Tree Work
🌱Dirt Work
🌱Equipment rental (specifically skid steer and/ or excavator)

But we're open to ideas!... as well as just $$$$ of course! Send us a DM or email at [email protected] with inquiries

Farming in Alaska is hard y'all. It's mid-March, which typically means green-up in the lower 48, while right now we're stillll dealing with lows in the -20s. Our little farm is always trying to push our far North shoulder season, but sometimes the odds ... in this case heaps of snow, are stacked against us. It literally took 4 people in 2 days to excavate and cover a couple hoop houses. Ooof.

Worth it???

A big thank you to Leslie and Noah for helping me move literal mountains. ❄️

Making color!! Between all the crazy snow dumps and shoveling that is, I've been deep diving into botanical dyes with the last of our farm flowers and falling deeply in looove. It's been the slow burn type of love, the playful, discovering kind that takes a lot of patience and expectation be damned. From farm, to prepping each piece of fabric, to the beautiful reveal... well usually beautiful. haha! And with all this white, a little color goes a long way.

From left to right #1 : Marigold, Black Eyed Susan, Coreopsis, Sulphur Cosmos, Black Knight Scabiosa + iron, Black Knight Scabiosa

#2: Calendula, Marigold + iron, Black Eyed Susan + iron, Sulphur Cosmos exhaust bath, Black Knight Scabiosa exhaust bath

Big shout out to the for teaching me the skills and encouraging my own groove.🌸
