The first photo is the inspiration my client sent me. The second is what came to life, a fresh strawberry filled tres leches cake with whipped frosting and fresh flowers.
I kept looking at the inspiration photo, wondering how I was going to recreate those flowers. On Tuesday, I stopped by Safeway on University Avenue, where Carrie in the floral department helped me choose the flowers. She suggested adding the purple Sweet Williams. I’ll admit, I hesitated for a second. It wasn’t exactly what I had pictured. Then she explained how the purple would bring out the deeper colors in the stargazer lilies. As soon as she said it, I could see exactly what she meant. The following day, I realized I needed just a little more pink, so I dyed the baby’s breath myself to finish the look.
