On the eve of going back to work for the school year I spent my last day off in a scramble!! Braelyn and I went into town today to grab some things she needed and then it was buckle down and get some canning done!

The Farm-stand has been up a little over a week and the support and communication from the neighborhood has been AMAZING!! U guys have def come out with support and I’m not even done yet!!

This weekend we have Blueberry Fest 🫐 at Skiland where we are setting up our first Whippo Farms booth and I’m slightly overwhelmed getting things ready b man, my banner came in today and it’s beautiful!! 🥱 sleep is for the weary I guess!!

Here’s to a week back in the working/farm world!! I’ll be updating the page with some of our summer this week! Thanks for stopping by guys and supporting our family!! ❤️

Well… this is awkward.

Our last Facebook post was “Merry Christmas.” 😳

No, we didn’t disappear. We didn’t sell the farm. We didn’t get carried off by an angry goose (although that has come close a time or two).

The truth is, life simply got busy.

Right after Christmas, Daniel’s ski racing season went into overdrive, culminating in an incredible opportunity to compete internationally at the Arctic Winter Games. We barely caught our breath before ski boots were traded for baseball cleats, summer projects kicked into high gear, and the farm demanded just about every spare minute we had.

As for the animals… let’s just say we had to temporarily revoke their internet privileges due to repeated violations of the “don’t create extra work for the humans” policy. They’re currently serving their sentence and may earn their social media rights back for good behavior. No promises.

While we’ve been quiet online, we’ve certainly been busy around the farm!

🐔 We raised meat chickens and processed 45 meat this year SO FAR!
🦆 We processed 3 ducks.
🦃 We now have 5 turkeys wandering around.
🪿 We welcomed 2 new geese.
🐥 We hatched a new group of future egg-laying hens back in the spring.
🏡 We started a self-serve farm stand at the end of our driveway, and the community has absolutely blown us away with the support. It has been a huge success!
🔨 We finished a few more projects around the barn and, because apparently we don’t know how to relax, we’ve started building what we hope will become an epic treehouse for the kids. Pic’s of the barn coming soon!!

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by the farm stand, supported our little farm, shared kind words, or simply followed along with our adventures.

We’re hoping to do a much better job of sharing what’s happening around Whippo Farms. There are plenty of stories to tell… assuming the chickens don’t hack our account again.

Thanks for sticking with us. We’re glad to be back.

🦆 Duck Dispatch — Entry #5: “Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Chaos”

Dear Diary,
We would like to officially announce that morale is back.
Possibly too back.

Ever since the new secure yard went in, we’ve been acting like ducks with a gated community and no HOA.
We roam.
We splash.
We sprint for no reason and then act surprised when momentum happens.

The humans clearly built this space for our safety, but we’ve chosen to interpret it as an invitation for late-night waddling laps, synchronized quacking, and aggressive snack negotiations.
They supervise.
We allow it.

We’re feeling brave again.
Bold, even.
One of us tried to intimidate a snowbank yesterday. The snowbank lost.

Also, we’ve noticed that when certain four-legged members of the household accompany chores, interesting things seem to… travel.
We don’t know how.
We don’t ask questions.
We just know the chickens suddenly act like they’ve heard updates.

Anyway.
The yard is ours.
The vibes are high.
The chaos is controlled (by us).

Winter can stay if it wants — we’ve got space, security, and plenty of opinions.

🐔 Cluck Chronicles — Entry #5: “Rumors Confirmed”

Dear Diary,
So… remember when we said something was going on?
Turns out we weren’t imagining it.

The rumors are true.
There are nine new hens and a rooster named Rudi settling into the OG Coop.
We haven’t met them yet, but word travels fast around here.
Especially about eggs.

Apparently, when you do the math, their egg-to-chicken ratio is very impressive.
Mabel says she’s “not threatened,” but she’s been counting eggs out loud, so draw your own conclusions.

No one officially told us anything.
Information just seems to… arrive.
Sometimes right after morning chores.
Sometimes after a familiar four-legged shadow makes the rounds and then quietly settles nearby.

Also, the barn dust mystery has been solved.
Turns out our deep litter was too dry to do its composty thing, so it’s getting lightly watered now to help it break down properly.
The air feels better, the sneezing has stopped, and morale is improving.
Mabel says it smells “earthy,” which we think is a compliment.

Change is in the air.
New birds. New routines. Slightly damp bedding.
We’ll be watching.
And listening.

WELL… we did it!!! 🎉🦆

The ducks are officially safe, secure, cozy, and VERY happy in their new digs — and honestly, that peace of mind is everything. There’s still a little modifying left to do, but let’s be real… these temps are brutal on the humans 🥶 while the ducks are out here like, “This is fine.”

If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve had an owl situation lately 👀🦉 and I was determined to figure something out. It took me a little longer than I wanted (okay… about 2 hours 😅), but then it hit me — we already had what we needed!

We raise meat chickens every summer and use tractors all over the yard… so what better idea than modifying a tractor to fit snug against the duck house? BOOM 💥 — instant secure duck yard where they can play to their little hearts’ content (which, for ducks, is apparently all night long).

Was it cold? Oh yes.
Was -16° trying to take us out? Absolutely.
Did Ken and I still get it done and tarped before more snow could fly? You bet. 💪❄️

I am beyond thankful for a husband who’s willing to get in the trenches with me, freeze his face off, and make these ideas happen. This is farm life — cold fingers, problem solving, teamwork, and very happy ducks. 🦆❤️

Stay tuned… because Whippo Farms is always up to something 😉

Well… apparently secrets don’t stay secrets on this farm. 😅

Somehow the word got out that new chickens were coming, and we definitely didn’t tell the flock. If we had to guess, Mabel overheard a conversation and passed it along… or maybe Bou did what Bou does best and carried the gossip between coops. Either way, the OG crew knew something was up. 👀🐓

Ken and I have been talking for a while about adding to our flock to better meet the needs of Whippo Farms. We even tossed around the idea of popping eggs into the incubator over Christmas break now that we have a well-heated barn and brooder space.

Then it hit us 💡 — with a little reconnecting and an extension cord, the OG Coop could live again.

And in true Whippo Farms fashion… things moved way faster than planned 😂

It has been a downright cold winter so far, even up here on our hill with the inversion. Warmer than downtown, sure — but we’ve still seen our fair share of negatives. So on Wednesday after work, it happened. We were able to provide a warm, safe home for someone’s chickens sooner than expected — and just like that, we welcomed Rudi the Rooster and his 9 lovely ladies to the farm 🐓❤️

They’re currently settling in comfortably in quarantine, already making themselves at home, started laying the very first night, and Rudi’s frostnip from his previous housing is healing up nicely.

The OG Coop is officially back in business… and we have a feeling this bunch is going to fit right in.

🦆 Duck Dispatch — Entry #4: “Shadows, Shivers, and the Gossip Courier”

Dear Diary,
It’s been a hard few days.
The great horned owl came in the night, silent as snowfall, and we lost one of our own.
Even with the humans checking on us, even with Caribou patrolling the yard, it happened fast — owls are ghosts with wings.

The pasture has felt different ever since.
Quieter.
We stick closer together.
We watch the sky more.
Even the snow sounds louder when it crunches under our feet.

But today… things felt a little lighter.
Caribou — “Bou” to her friends and fans — trotted out with the humans during morning chores.
She sniffed every corner of the pasture, checked every shadow, and then laid down beside us like a four-legged reassurance blanket.

We’re pretty sure she thinks we’re her babies.
Or her coworkers.
Or maybe she’s just terrible at being a bird-hunting dog.
Either way, she makes us feel safe.

And here’s something funny:
Bou always wanders over to the chicken pasture next.
We don’t know what she tells them…
but the chickens suddenly start clucking about “staying vigilant” and “watching the skies.”

We suspect she’s been carrying messages back and forth.
Not that we mind — every flock needs a little gossip pipeline.
And if Bou wants to be our undercover courier, we support her.

One day at a time, we’re feeling a bit more like ourselves again.
A little nervous still, but healing in our own duck-ish way — with soft quacks, close huddles, and the occasional belly-slide when no one’s looking.
