Arlington had a restaurant week in October (usually it’s August and January?) so I decided to go to Palette 22 and it was excellent. My favorite dishes were the steak skewers, scallops, butter chicken, street corn, and fish tacos! The tuna crudo was a bit too sour. I loved the shrimp tacos but there was just a bit too wet. The dan dan noddles has a lot of potential…but I think we’re just too salty. The menu is great and there is a lot of variety no matter what you’re in the mood for.

My brother and his wife have a nice garden, and this year they grew a few ghost pepper plants. When I paid a visit, they gave me a good size bag of the peppers. I placed them in the oven at 175 degrees and dried them out. It took about 10 hours, but I like this method. I then ground them down to make 2 small jars for seasoning. This stuff is potent and will be great in chili and hot wings.

Before I started my recent burger tour, The Salt Line had my favorite burger in the DMV. But it had been a while since I had it so on the same day I crowned Bar Angie the best burger I had ever had, I went to Salt Line and had their burger again and, as of now, I would say Salt Line is the top dog. It’s just a more complete burger. But stay turned, we still have at least 7 more to try…

My mission to find the best burger in the DMV brought me to LA BONNE VACHE today for lunch. Was there celebrating a friend’s birthday so we got the French onion burger (crispy onions, Gruyere, caramelized onions, and garlic aioli) and the au poivre (green peppercorn aioli, pickled red onion, champignon de Paris, and gourmet d’ambert) and split them in half. We liked both but agree with French onion burger was a bit more balanced and harmonious. Our starter was the gougeres which had this super tasty whipped paprika cream cheese that we also used for the frites au fromage (not pictured). I don’t think this was my top burger but I thought the burgers were excellent and I will be coming back to explore their menu further.

A brunch burger and a bramble 🙌🏼 I wasn’t really expecting a burger at a celebrity restaurant (Gordon Ramsey Burger Flamingo) in Vegas to hit but this certainly did. Sunny side up egg, thick bacon, cheese, and d hashbrown with a medium rare patty cooked perfectly. I’d go back again for sure.

Had a nice meal in Vegas in the Bengali. The steak was cooked to perfection, the coconut shrimp was excellent, and the meal was topped off with cherry chocolate dessert stuffed mousse and cherries filled with liqueur. The Mayfair Supper Club

This meal was incredible from beginning to end but the lobster and shrimp fried rice the highlight for me. I really just love restaurants that do the expected dishes very well but then offer the unexpected as well. And shoutout to our server (Paige) who was perhaps the best server I’ve ever experienced and made the whole meal memorable. The Oceanaire Seafood Room

I was in Vegas for work last week but I got there early so I could enjoy a few days (including Labor Day) before work started. I went to the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar’s Palace and the food was excellent. The variety was top notch, including Chinese, sushi, poke, Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, meats, and seafood. Though I had 4 plates, I’m not sure I ate enough to justify the $86 price tag which does not include tax and tip. I just don’t have the appetite I used to.

NEW PIZZA PLACE ALERT
Met a friend for dinner and thought we would try this new pizza place in Occoquan Virginia. We had a simple pepperoni pizza, that's it. It's all we needed to know this place is special. The red sauce was some of the best I've had in years. I couldn't get the recipe for it, they keep it a secret, and for good reason. Honestly, it's worth a trip if you are a pizza lover.

Had Din Tai Fung for second time last night! Everything about this meal hit. I loved the spicy wontons so much and the soup dumplings, sesame noodles, shiu mai, and cucumbers were exquisite. But the 2 best bites for me came at the end with the mango and shaved ice AND the chocolate buns which were filled with a hot and gooey brownie batter sauce. This meal was a dream from beginning to end.
