Finally have honey! $15/lb. The harvest was much lower than precious summers due to heavy losses to the bee yard during yo-yo weather we had in February. But, it's lighter and milder than typical end of summer honey!

Deb and I were just about to our car in the Kroger parking lot when this striped fella landed on Deb's newly purchased flowers. Interesting to know that this is a Drone Bee. Not to be confused with a male drone honey bee. This bee is a pollinator that is solitary and rests under leaves or tall grass. The males live 2-3 months dying in the fall. They meet on common high hills, knolls with other drone bees to mate. The females winter over in hibernation in wood, leaf piles or structures and live off of fat and s***m stores until spring living 4-6 months. No stingers and no biting, just look like a bee to fool birds and other prey. They also have snorkel tails that extend more than twice their body length to feed in mucky areas.

***SOLD OUT***

Having had the worst winter since starting in 2012, we lost all but two hives. I built the hives back up 80% but only one hive produced spring honey. I am selling small batch spring honey in pint jars (about 1.5 lbs honey) for $25. I’m gonna limit two jar purchases until all that have been asking get some. Currently, 9 jars are left out the 16. Let me know if interested. Light, thick, super sweet spring honey.

Thanks to Donna in Blueridge for helping me with swarm #1 of 2026! Easy in a shrub and was able to place the swarm on the branch in a box. Donna wasn’t scared in the least and cut the branch so I could remove the bees! Thanks for your help!

Hung up a couple more swarm traps today. If you have had honeybee swarm activity on your property in the past seasons in the month of May, I wouldn’t mind if I hung one, let me know, thanks!
