Little Jaybird Farm

Little Jaybird Farm We have an organic & sustainable micro-farm that features produce and heritage breed rabbits, poultry and quail. Greetings friends! XO The Overstreets

All of our products that are sold use a modern approach rooted in traditional methods. Owned by Walker, Mandy, and the Overstreet boys. We are focused on sustainable living and organic farming and gardening. Our garden includes a variety of tomatoes, squash, zucchini, loofahs, beets, strawberries, elderberries, blueberries, kale, and whatever else may be in season at the time. We use only organic

fertilizer (made at the farm, mostly rabbit poo) and organic pesticide treatments if needed. We have a drum to catch rainwater which we use to water the garden when possible. This year we are focusing on beefing up our blueberry crop so that we will have a lot to offer in the future. On the animal side, we have heritage breed rabbits, chickens and hogs. Our hog (right now singular) is an American Guinea Hog and is about to be the proud father of a litter of piglets. He is currently housed off site, but we are planning to move him to the farm very soon. This guy is an adventurer, and made a great 10 mile or so escape as a piglet (about 4 months old) before being rescued by some kind-hearted people down the road. In addition to providing meat eventually, we are planning to self-render the lard to use in our skincare products. We have approximately 20 hens that are housed in a movable, trailer coop that Walker built. The coop is surrounded by a solar-powered electric fence to keep the girls safe. We have had a lot of issues the past year with critters taking our flock, so hopefully these measures will keep them safe. The 40-50 rabbits on the farm include Chinchillas, Silver Foxes, and more. We raise the majority of them traditionally, but are testing 5 rabbits out in a move-able tractor style pen to allow them to be grass-fed. We move the tractor every morning as it is impressive the amount of grass those little guys can eat in a day! We do breeding on site and have pedigrees for all of our breeders. Walker is planning to obtain his meat-handlers licensing in the next couple of months which will allow us to sell the rabbits to restaurants, individuals, or stores.

Meet Kibbles and Bits! They are litter mates that were born in March 2025. Their parents are registered kunekunes but we have not gotten around to registering them yet. They are related to all of the pigs we have, so not the best fit for our farm anymore. They should probably go separately as the male is intact, and it is probably advisable to leave him intact at this point in his life. Both parents are onsite. Raised around kids, dogs and goats, and are friendly toward people. Pm for more details.

Recently, we got to take our farm “on the road”. A local school had a farm day for students to learn about harvesting, raising animals, farm equipment, and they even made their own butter. The kids got to pet some rabbits and see the babies, check out our bees in an observation hive, see some chickens, and try our honey. What a fun experience!

While bees living in your house might sound cool, it’s really not for a lot of reasons! Removing them is a tricky business, especially when they are in a tough spot. We would still love to help this family work toward covering the cost of their expensive job, as they are going to have to hire a mason and other subcontractors to complete their job. If you are able, and would like to help them make a responsible choice and , please follow this link to donate.

We met this family at Honey Fest last year and learned about their “bee problem”. They had some honeybees move into their house and wanted to make the choice to re-home them to a beekeeper. Their job is going to be expensive as it will require removing some bricks before Walker can do the bee removal and clean out, and then having bricks laid by a mason. We are willing to discount our work to make this achievable, but are hoping to help them with the cost. They are paying for their son to attend college and have had some unplanned expenses with other home repairs. If you would like to help them, the funds will go to their account to help them with the costs of the removal and repairs, and save another colony of bees 🐝

We need your help!

We are looking for another apiary location. Ideally this would be an unused corner of your property that has easy driving access, relatively flat land, view of the southern sky preferred, and natural flora. We will provide all necessary equipment and supplies, maintain the apiary ourselves and pay you in honey. You will receive one gallon of honey per year, pollination from the honeybees, a chance to learn more about bees, and an opportunity to aid in bee preservation.

About our operation - Walker has 9 years of beekeeping experience. We currently operate with approximately 50 hives and 2 apiaries. Many of our bees are rescues from catching swarms or performing cutouts. We are passionate about sustainability and natural farming practices.

Please reach out if this sounds like a good fit for you!
