🐝 So Rancher woman (my wife) thought this would be a good promotional tool. I asked how would a four legged spider sell honey. She explained it was the (cutest little bee). Apparently this bee does his rounds walking cause he don’t have wings. 🧐🥑🐝🤠. .
We’re taking preorders now for the Christmas gifts. Who wouldn’t love a jar of spider honey?

🍁 Oh the fall moment. Cooler temps and yes we have fall colors in so cal. I say moment because it was 75 on thanksgiving and it’ll probably be 85 degrees on Christmas Day. By the way east coasters it’ll be 72 with clear blue sky’s here at the ranch today. No malice intended of course but excuse me as I go put on some sunscreen. .

✝️ Nothing gives this grandpa more pleasure than walking to church with my grandkids. Sure our family has its moments, who doesn’t, but God has been kind to our family. Having the opportunity to introduce Jesus to our grandkids is so special knowing that when they someday experience those painful moments, they’ll have the assurance that only our savior can bring. May you have a blessed Memorial Day especially those of you enduring the pain of a missing loved one. 🐀🐿 California ground squirrels. These cute little rats are a menace to the ranch. They burrow deep holes next to my trees and are almost impossible to eradicate. As I drive my grove roads they literally zig zag in front of me by the dozens. Pepper is doing her best though as she catches one or two a day to do her part at the ranch. 🐕🤠

🥑 Yesterday was a picture of baby Hass avocados and today is a Reed avocado. Both are setting their fruit now but the Reed won’t come to maturity until several months after the Hass yet stay on the tree for only about two months. The Reed is arguably one of the best tasting avocados but because of its short season it has developed somewhat of a cult following with people going to extreme measures to find and buy. So I planted forty of them and we’ll be offering them next summer. 🤠 So for now we’re offering our best tasting Hass avocados at our website rossiranch.com

🥑 Still struggling to get this year’s crop to size up but next year’s crop is getting a good start. Usually in mid May to the first or second week of June the baby avos are b b size but I’m seeing this early sizing everywhere. With two heatwaves in four years I’m hoping this is a good sign of a normal year. 🥑🤠

🐶 Can someone help me with the math here? You would think I have a herd of dogs making use of my yard. Pepper is literally a p**p machine. She turns a scoop of food into several drop zones. I wonder if I fed her coins if she would become a ATM. 🤠

🥑🌼 It’s begun!!! Every year the anticipation never dulls with flowers turning into little avos. We’ve had a good flower set this year so the job is to turn as many into avocados. Not as easy as it sounds as I get questions all the time why their trees don’t produce. So besides my magic wand and fairy dust water is always the key. Need to keep that top six inches moist but not a bog. Every few days especially if it gets warm and you can’t forget a watering session. The next thirty days determines your crop for next year. So let the heavens rejoice as the fruiting has begun. 🤠

👩‍🌾 We got invited to the ecology center in San Juan Capistrano by our friend Cathy McKnight . Plenty to see in San Juan but this a must.
Of course there’s a farm stand with all kinds of farm fresh organic vegetables and fruits but the farm is right there for you to visit and enjoy. Whatever they don’t grow there they get from other local farmers to give you a feast to admire and purchase.
It’s a 28 acre farm that not only sells to the community but also helps in the community by helping out food insecure families. Too much to tell you about in this little space but a pretty cool place.
Of course loves our avocados and is a regular customer but besides sharing her time at the ecology center she works with donating her time to cancer stricken kids. They are having a luau celebrating the many people involved with so she asked if we donate some our avocados. Of course we did but check them out There’s some incredible stories told there that’ll certainly bring a tear to your eye. Thanks Chef Cathy for inviting us to help. 🤠

🌼 Last week was Easter of course and the kids sang in front of the church including our lil’brooke. Second pic shows her giving a show with her dress nicely over her head. As a parent I would have been horrified 25 years ago but as a grandpa I had a smile from ear to ear. 🤠

🌼 It’s flower season here at the ranch and this tree is going all out. Avocado trees are a very prolific flowering tree yet only produce a few hundred avocados per tree. So for the next three months I’ll be a busy farmer making sure my girls are well pampered. 🌼🥑🤠

🌺 Spring is right around the corner so I’m doing my best to enjoy these last days of winter. Living in southern cal with palm trees gently moving in the breeze and 70 degree temps I’m almost tempted to take my jacket off. The wind chill is keeping it on though. 🤠

🌼 The Gem flowers are really starting to push out and the trees are just loaded with these young buds. I’m just a little anxious about the leaf push. Here you see some leaf push inside the flower bud push. Last year with so much bud push my tree’s defoliated with the leaf push coming in much later. So I’ve adjusted my watering a bit and I’ve actually started fertilizing a bit to encourage the leaf push. Here’s to Gem guacamole 🥑🤠

🥑 Though the last couple heatwaves did a number on our trees and affected the sizing of our fruit, every once in awhile I’ll find a monster avo just hanging there. Preferred size is 8 ounces, the ones in the store typically 4 to 6 ounces, this one a whopping 12 and half ounces. Guacamole for two anyone? 🥑🤠
