Slight change in what we decided to make with whats left from the ๐Ÿ„.

We found out the last 2 boxes of extra was not just far but rather a lot of bones with meat on them from the butcher so we are making beef bone broth. ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฅฉ We had to get out our biggest pan (60 qts) that we normally use on a propane burned outside and instead use 2.25 burners on the stove!!! ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿคฏ

The 2nd smaller pan has as much of the fat as I could trim off the bones for some more tallow.

Rendering tallow from our ๐Ÿ„ that just got back from the butcher. Batch 2 of 3 (almost 4 gallons of Suet fat and about the same of trimmings processed. Tomorrow we start breaking down the last batch which should be about 6-8ish more gallons of trimmings.

Hello everyone. ๐Ÿ‘‹ We know it has been a minute since we posted, but fear notโ€ฆ we are still here and the farm is ever growing! Not sure where our winter went this year, but it has made us move fast into an early spring.

๐Ÿ“ Chickens are laying up a storm ๐Ÿฅš ๐Ÿฅš ๐Ÿฅš (F2 Oliver Egger hatching eggs available currently)
๐Ÿฆƒ Turkeys are breeding (we do have some breeding sets available for anyone interested in having their own or individual ๐Ÿฆƒ for processing) Heritage breeds only currently.
French Guinea Fowl have begun laying and eggs are available now.
๐Ÿท Piglets should be due next month ๐Ÿคž
๐Ÿ Goats are doing goats things while they wait for us to let them breed ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ˜

Todayโ€™s current project is rendering beef suet from the cow ๐Ÿ„ we got this week into tallow.

Nutrient Profile: Suet is highly nutritious, containing vitamins A, D, E, K, and B1, plus selenium and choline. Ours was grass-fed and so also high in Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA).

Busy busy times around here. We are in turkey processing season. The broad breast whites are going out currently. Our biggest one so far dressed was 35.4 lbs! ๐Ÿคฏ Needless to say this years birds did very well and grew nicely. I will spare everyone photos of the processing, but instead just show what hard work homesteading can provide for you: first batch of lunch meat just came off of the smoker. About 40lbs of homemade homegrown deliciousness! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿฆƒ
We will let these 4 rest and then cut, package and freeze tomorrow (during a scheduled power outage which should make this extra fun this time ๐Ÿ˜…)

In a few weeks we will be posting photos of heritage breeds young adults/adolescents that we will be willing to part with if you would like to add some to your flock ๐Ÿคฉ ๐Ÿฆƒ Watch out for the post as they go fast. Or message us to see what we have available and reserve yours today.

Farming is not for the weak. There is never a day off. Rain or shine animals need tended. This year has been extremely busy so we havenโ€™t had much time to post.

Here is a quick post of our pigs. ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ–๐Ÿ– We added another one to our breeding stock this am. Wilbur loves his ladies: Baconette (dark black/white stripes) Biscuit (bigger orange/black) and now 6 week old Belly .

Belly had her own pen, but she quickly showed us where there was a hole big enough for her to change pens and join Wilbur and Biscuit๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Poor baby Belly got car sick on the way home and she was even riding inside the SUV and not the truck. ๐Ÿท ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ

Canโ€™t wait for breeding season to come around again. Spring piglets on the farm this year.

๐Ÿฆƒ The last hatch of 2025 is in the books โœ”๏ธ. The incubators are turned off and stored away after yet another great season of turkey hatching. Time to give the breeding stock some much deserved down time.
