Rolling Horse Ranch currently has premium endophyte free fescue / orchard / alfalfa mix - (70% grass, 30% alfalfa) - $18.50 / bale in 68 bale blocks. This includes free delivery via retriever truck within 25 miles of 4405 Schurz Hwy - Fallon NV. Pickup of smaller quantities available for $19.50 per bale. Hay was cut on 21 May 2026 and put in the barn on 26 May 2026.

*** We recognize that this years hay prices are more than last year. Unfortunately all of our input costs have gone up SIGNIFICANTLY. The same ton of nitrogen fertilizer we bought last year for $700 / ton is $1,100 this year. The red diesel fuel we bought last year for $3.10 / gallon is $5.25 this year. We can only eat so much of that cost before it’s not worth doing. Thank you for your understanding. ***

We accept cash, check and credit cards. Credit cards carry an additional 2.75% fee. *All prices include delivery by retriever truck in a block within 25 miles of 4405 Schurz Hwy. Delivery to Fernley / Silver Springs = $60 extra. Delivery to Stagecoach = $105 extra. Delivery to Dayton = $150 extra.

Honored and humbled for RHR to be a sponsor for LeAnne Wallace to Ring the Bell in August signifying her being cancer free. Kaylee and Leanne are the best of friends and have been for a long time. If there is a single cause we can get onboard with its wiping children’s cancer off the face of this earth. It’s going to be a PARTY on August 21st!!! 🔔 🔔 🔔

It’s been a long time since we have made any updates but a couple big things have happened at RHR recently.

1. We purchased a freezer trailer this winter. Erin from Fallon Sign LLC put a beautiful wrap on it. This will allow all of our customers to pick up beef directly from our ranch vice Karla having to meet customers at the butcher. This will make her life so much easier and allow our customers to see our operation when they pick up their beef.

2. Irrigation season has officially started. All the crops look good despite mother nature making it 17F and 83F in the same day!!!

3. We purchased a new 300 gallon / 40’ boom sprayer that allows us to spray nitrogen (and other fertilizer) directly on to the plant vice the granular method we have traditionally used. This enables us to stretch our fertilizer farther which is a HUGE deal as fertilizer and diesel prices continue to climb.

4. The last of the calves are being born. I think we have 2 mamas left to calve. The last little girl was born 4 days ago and she is happy and healthy.

People have asked when we will have hay. We should have grass / alfalfa mix available around 1 June and we will have 2nd crop alfalfa around 10th of July.

Thank you for your continued support!

Branding Day at RHR

Karla’s sister Margo, husband Matt and their two boys Jacob and Ryan were visiting over break and skiing in Lake Tahoe. We spent a couple days at the ranch after skiing. Since we had 2 strong teenage boys to flank calves we decided to brand on Sunday before they head back home.

Joe and Melanie Jordan and LeAnne Wallace also came out to help us. LeAnne is a seasoned pro with the vaccine guns and Melanie took some beautiful pictures. Karla ran the ground crew and Keagan ran the branding iron. Joe, Kaylee and I did the roping.

It was a great day all the way around!

If anyone needs a place to stay in Fallon the next couple weeks - our guest house open. We had planned to do some maintenance in December (replacing the bath tub in the master) but our contractor had a family issues and we have to delay the renovation. Reach out to Karla or I or find us on airbnb.

Psalm 23 is one of my favorite bible verses. It begins:

“The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures…”

Cows usually only lay down when all of their needs are met and they project their needs will be met for quite some time. If the feed or water is thin they are always up eating / drinking because they don’t know how long it will last. They want to intake as much as they can while they can.

Conversely when a cow is laying down they are usually content because the feed is plentiful and the water is cool and clear.

I love nothing more than walking through our cows when they are laying down knowing they are satisfied.

Everyone loves baler clean out day. Animals like it because they get the freshest hay out of the bale chamber as we clean it for winter. People like it because it signals the end of the irrigation and hay season. 🎉
