Support the local flower farmers this season! 🌸

Attention flower lovers! My field grown season is about to take off! 🚀

This is my post with all the reasons to buy locally grown flowers with bonus list of Harford County, MD flower farms! (thanks for the idea !!)

💐Why Buy Local Flowers?

-Supporting our local merchants and farmers is good for every community. But when it comes to buying flowers there are so many other reasons to buy local.

-They Are Truly Local and Fresh
Almost 80 percent of fresh flowers sold in the United States and Canada are not grown in North America. That means they are on often on planes, trains and trucks for days or weeks after harvesting.

-They Are Unique
Local cut flower growers are a passionate group, and grow an incredibly diverse selection of flowers, foliage, stems, and fruits. Let your inner designer go wild with the wide range of fun local floral material available.

-They Are Responsibly Grown
Our growers strive to produce their flowers using responsible farming methods like integrated pest management, diverse cropping systems, and low-input fertilization programs. Their farms encourage important biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation.

-They Smell Better
Many commodity-type flowers have been bred for uniformity and to fit into a box, often losing their natural fragrance in the process. Locally-grown flowers are produced in greater varieties, providing a wide range of colors, forms, and scents.

-They Support the Local Economy
The production and sale of locally-grown cut flowers contribute to a community’s economy, and provide employment and valuable agriculture experience to many.

-They Make You Feel Better!
Flowers reduce stress and improve your mood. Flowers can be connected to a memory of a time, a place, a person, a season, an event. They have a story, and you are part of it.

We’ve been doing A LOT of behind the scenes over here, and one of those changes are we decided transitioning our rentals with our farm!

Did you know we have rentals?!?!
Previously Longwood Event Rentals we have always loved helping events stand out with beautiful wooden farm tables.
Inspired from our own DIY wedding getting married in the woods on family’s property we have enjoyed sharing these tables making gatherings so beautiful and memorable!
We’re finally excited to announce we have completed this transition and look forward to our events this year 💫

•EXPERIMENTATION•

One of my short term goals here in the greenhouse is to be able to grow tulips year round 🌷 They are my favorite flowers!
I’ve been digging deep into free resources learning everything about the different varieties of bulbs along with their chilling ,optimum light requirements but we all know you learn the most doing it yourself! So I’ll be taking diligent notes and finally putting my biology degree to work! ✍️

Delivered this beauty this morning to celebrate a special someone’s 90th year around the sun! ☀️
How amazing is that?!
This world is such a beautiful place and learning to love and preserve is such an important thing. So I figured this lovely snake plant, an amazing air purifier, was a perfect contribution.
As much as I love my cut flowers it’s true you can never have too many house plants 🪴

The install that sparked the fire 🔥

I waited all summer to assist with this install with
The vehicles filled with the intoxicating aroma of beautiful flowers waiting to be turned into master pieces.
On arrival at the beautiful we hit the ground running and piece by piece this masterpiece came to life✨
The hustle and bustle before an event is exciting, setting up for the bride to see the conversations beforehand come to life. It’s safe to say I loved every minute of it!

I’m so excited for a year full of flowers!
I’ve been hard at work starting seedlings and plantings this past fall and it’s about to really speed up!
I’m thrilled to be apart of learning and creating from the best ✨
When I first got into the floral industry I was a bit hesitant, it was new and unfamiliar territory. I put my nose in books and learning everything I could possibly retain, and growing first hand to understand all stages of the flower and I’ve LOVED it.
I’ve made some amazing flower friends and Cristabel and the team have welcomed me with open arms 😊
Seriously so excited for the buckets and buckets of flowers to come! 💐😍

The first snow has landed and it’s dreamy!
The kiddos excitement got us outside quickly this morning and the fresh blanket of snow is covered in tiny human and dog tracks.
The snow is all pushed off the greenhouse and everything is looking snug!

Warming up, sneaking in some catalogue glances and getting some more baby snuggles in before round two of snow fun ☃️
