We finished planting at our Staples seed farm this weekend! We plant this farm later than our commercial farms because the growing season is typically only 65 days, and this schedule sets us up to harvest in early September.

Our goal is to grow single drop seed, which wouldn’t require cutting in the next season.

Storm Update: After winds took down one of our irrigators, a hail storm came through later in the day. It did cause some minor damage to our plants, but we expect them to fully recover given the growth stage they’re in right now.

Weather sure can make farming unpredictable 😅 But on the bright side, the sun is now shining and the fields are already starting to dry out!🌨️☀️

Last night's storms were a strong reminder that Mother Nature is in charge.

While we did see some damage - including a few downed irrigators - our crops appear to be holding up well, which we're grateful for this morning.

Farming always comes with the unexpected, and we take it as it comes. Thinking of our neighbors and others across the area — hoping everyone is safe and doing well as we continue to watch the forecast closely today.

The taters are coming along!🥔🌱

The plants in this field in Hastings are just starting to enter the tuber development phase. This means those tiny dime sized tubers are going to start getting bigger and -over the next few months- grow into full sized potatoes.

Around here, nothing goes to waste. We use every part of our fields for something- even the corners where we don’t plant potatoes. On some farms we plant trees, others pollinator plots, and in Hastings, we are planting cover crops to prevent weeds, minimize wind erosion, and recycle nutrients.
