My dad passed away Monday afternoon. Below is the obituary that will be in the Herald Banner to tomorrow .

Sammy K. (Sam) Foley, 82, of Merit, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026 in Greenville, Texas. A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darwin Morris officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. until service time.

Sammy was born on August 14, 1943 in Greenville, Texas to James Loyd Foley and Laura Melinda Turner. He married Carol Williamson on April 1972 in Durant, Oklahoma. He was a cattleman and a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his sons, James Dillard (Jimmy) Foley of Celeste; Ronnie Glen Foley and wife Vickie of Merit Tx. and sister, Norma Prisock of Kansas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 5 , 3 nephews; great nieces; nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews; Right hand man and special friend Jorge Lopez.

He was preceded in death by parents James and Laura Foley, his wife Carole, sisters, Martha Morton, Nancy West and Claudine Chaney.

Congratulations to the 2026 Beef Empire Days Carcass Winners!

Fireball, Fireproof, Home Town , Acceleration and Transcendent were well represented during the 2026 Beef Empire Days live and carcass competition.
The overall winner of the 2026 Beef Empire Days winning the Earl C. Brookover award went to long-time GAR customer Margie Mayer, Mayer Legacy LLC, Guymon, Oklahoma, with the composite placing in both the Live & Carcass contest. This 1640-pound steer exhibited a low Prime, YG 3.1, with his 16.89" RE with .60" backfat. He was fed at Triangle H Feedyard.

The overall Reserve Champion steer from JO Cattle Company, Holcomb, Kansas, is another multi-decade customer. Their steer fed at Hy-Plains Feedyard also placed in both the Live & Carcass show. This 1600-pound steer had a quality grade of low Prime, YG 2.6 with his 16.0" RE and .36 backfat.

Congratulations to Brian Walt, W6 Cattle, Collyer, Kansas, for overall Live & Carcass Heifer Champion. This 1480 # Home Town daughter recorded a Prime Plus quality grade, YG 1.9 with her 18.51" RE and .46" backfat. Brian also had the Champion Steer Carcass with a steer sired by Acceleration out of a Home Town cow. This 1510 # steer graded Prime Average, YG 2.8, with a 17.39 RE, and .56" backfat. The Brian Walt cattle were fed at Beef Belt LLC.

Also, congratulations to Mark and Mary Kaltenbach, Ashland, and Smith Taylor Partners, of Arkansas, who also recorded top 10 finishes with their GAR-sired cattle. These beef producers have invested in value added genetics for decades with Gardiner Angus Ranch.

They strive toward Making Beef Better by selecting for multi-trait excellence to continue genetic progress through disciplined decisions. The Beef Empire Days Live & Carcass Competition is an excellent example of continued progress made with every generation of genetic excellence. There were 129 steers and 69 heifers entered in this year’s competition.
