As the high country quiets down for the season, some of our most tried-and-true wilderness warriors are getting a well deserved break: Yosemite’s pack mules! Mules like Amigo here haul supplies for the restoration and maintenance of over 800 miles of trails, providing wilderness access for visitors from around the world. They work hard all summer long, earning a restful winter at pasture in the foothills. Adios Amigo! Thank you for your service, and we’ll see you in spring!
We said goodbye to our 5 mule colts today. It is always bittersweet when they leave, but we are thankful for giving us such joy.
Pulled the mares and colts off of the pasture. It is time to wean and reseed the pasture. Excited to see these 5 grow up.

I know the picture quality is terrible, but I wanted to introduce Buddy to our Facebook friends. He was born early in the morning on Wednesday. His mom is always keeping a watchful eye on him and me.
We are always asked how long of a pregnancy will a draft horse have carrying a mule colt. Today, our Red mare carried a horse mule and delivered on her 357 day.
We would like to introduce our friends to our newest mule colt. Daisy was born Saturday morning around 2 a.m. Abby and Daisy are doing well.
Johna out trying to tucker Chief, so he will take a nap.
Yesterday afternoon, we went out to complete the chores and we found this guy. At first glance he looked fine, but as some time passed he seemed to be in some discomfort. We phoned our vet Countryside Veterinary Service and Dr. Natale came out. Something didn't seem right, so we decided to load mom and baby up and head to the U of I Large Animal services. We unloaded last night and returned home after midnight. Today, we received a phone call reporting the our mule colt is perfectly fine. Back to Champaign and another tank of fuel and Chief and mom are back home.
One year ago we purchased these 2 fillies from MM RANCH and here is a picture from today. They were cleaner a year ago.
Bittersweet day at the farm, we are sad to see Rex go, but happy for his new adventures.
Senior picture time at Murphy's Mules. My daughter and the mare cleaned up well.
I am pleased to announce, at 90 days post breeding, we have 5 mares bred to the jack and 1 open mare. We hope to have many little hooves by next May. I was absolutely shocked about the one open mare. I just knew that she was bred.
This was an excellent, well written article about Murphy Mules. https://www.thejournal-news.net/stories/murphys-mules-missouri-bound-in-40th-year,70257
Milly and Kathy, our yearling Belgian fillies, are off to summer camp. When they come back in 4 weeks, we hope that they have learned some things. First part of the education process is trailer loading and unloading etiquette.
Since 1958, my dad has shown mules at some fair. That streak has appeared to have come to an end. We found out today that the Missouri State Fair horse and mule show has been canceled. We are saddened by the news, but understand the reason.
We just finalized our entries to attend the Missouri State Fair. It has been at least 20 years since we were able to show out there. We are looking forward to going back.
Rex is kind of photogenic. We think he is going to be pretty good in the future.
With the cancellation of the Illinois State Fair and the Duquoin State Fair we are officially out of places to show mules. This could be the first time since 1958 that my dad hasn't shown mules at the fair. We are still holding out hope for the Missouri State Fair.
We had the opportunity to show one of our brood mares in a virtual 4-H show today. This old mare cleaned up real nice.
Congratulations to Claudia and Victoria on the purchase of their new mule Cindy. We know that she is going to great home. We look forward to their new adventures.
Check out Rex's moves in the pasture. He is definitely showing off.
With St. Patrick's day coming up, I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce Franie. Franie is a jennet, a female donkey. She is a little over a year old and very friendly
Reba posing for a picture on the first day of winter. If you look closely, you can see the baby bump.
Merry Christmas mules. Your barn is clean and bedded down with nice warm straw. I am freezing.
Purchased some new filles and finally got them home. We are quite giddy with anticipation for prospective mule colts.
Congratulations to Joe Wiley on the purchase of Wayne and Marty. We are sad to see them go, but excited for you and your son.
After a long summer with their moms, today we weaned Wayne and Marty. Everyone seems to be handling the separation well. These 2 colts are currently for sale. We are asking $8000 for both of them. We will not separate. They are half brothers with white manes and tails.
I am always bragging about Wayne, but I have another good horse mule colt named Marty. He is starting to slick off his coat. He has an arrogant streak in him too.

All Stu Ellis @FarmGateMedia wanted was some videos of the mules going into the barn. We had a couple camera hogs in the way.
Supplementing our oats with a little extra protein. Some of the mares will be nursing soon and the other mares who are pregnant could use a little more energy now. And the mules really don't need it , but the ones that we will drive could use a few more calories in their diet.
For sale Kenney 17.2 Horse mule 3 yr old Blonde with a good head and ears. Very gentle but not broke to work.
We had a dress rehearsal tonight for the 3 abreast. We always seem to sell the mule that goes in the middle. I think we are ready Illinois State Fair, DuQuion,Illinois
Another day, another pair of mules. This is Kayla on the right and Justin on the left. They are both 4yrs old. They are coming along nicely.
Here is a little video I shot of Hope and Erica. They just returned home after spending 30 days with an Amish man. They are definitely not broke, but they have a good foundation. They needs miles and miles together so they learn to work as one.
We never leave the mules outside during the summer season. The sun will bleach out their coat. Tonight is the official switch night. Mules out at night, and sleep during the day.
Yesterday when I was out doing the morning chores, I snapped this video. The mules really seemed to enjoy the snow. Erica even tried to make a snow angel in honor of Christmas Eve.
We never get to drive mules on December 2. Sophie and I thought it would a fitting end to a beautiful day.
Working the 3 abreast for the first time this year. We will be participating in this class this weekend.
These mules crack me up. Every night when I let them out, they all roll in the dirt. Erica finally made it over, but Kenney said the heck with it.
Harvesting some oats for this winter's feed. The w**d control could always be better, but the mules will eat it.
We try to keep the mules locked up when the outside lot is too muddy, but it is too nice of day to stay inside.
