The wonderful rain over the last 48 hours has done wonders for the trees. They are finishing off their spring growth; the rain will help the final stages. And the newly planted trees are happy. We have been hand watering the small trees for the last 25 days. The rain will allow us to take a break. The trees are happy! And this farmer is happy!! Pruning will start next week.

Beautiful day today, but we need rain!! We are back to our hand watering routine with gallon bottles of water. Every time we go out to the field, we carry water and are tying to keep our new trees alive.

Every fall, several professional photographers schedule family photo sessions at the farm. They all do a wonderful job. If anyone is interested, please reach out to them directly. I do not endorse any one in particular; they are all professionals with their own styles. Most sessions take place on weekends. They all do other types of family, wedding, graduation, etc. sessions.

May 24 update: The rain today is certainly making for a lousy Memorial Day weekend, but here at the farm we are relishing every drop! This is the first significant rain we have had in a long time. The existing trees are in the middle of their spring growth, so this rain will ensure great growth and color. The rain will also help the new transplants get a good start to survival. We just hope for rain like this in July and August.

The beautiful Blue Spruce pictured below has the most wonderful silver/blue color. It 'might' be tall enough this year; most definitely next year for a wonderful 7' to 8' tree.

Mid May report: All of the stumps were ground in February, 350 new trees were planted in March. So far all of the new trees are alive! However, the lack of rain has forced us to hand water the new trees. Every time we go out to the field, we carry gallon bottles of water to give the new trees a drink. Pruning on the big trees will start after all of the new growth is finished, and it cools off. So far the trees are looking great!

10:30 Saturday morning...the new crop of trees are all in the ground. Sue and I filled all the spots in the field. We are now at 100%. Now we could use rain about every 10 days from now till September! These trees will be ready in 2035!

Tree planting time is here! This is what 500 trees in their boxes looks like. A lot got planted today; hopefully the rest will be planted tomorrow before the evening rain.

The trees come from a great nursery in southern Michigan.

Now we need some good heavy rain every two weeks from now till September, and not too hot summer.
