TOMATO! A Poem.

“T” - Taboo. Once called ‘The Devil’s Apple’ by risk averse Europeans, it calls to mind Eve and that other apple. Just like Eve, once you take a bite, you’ll never experience the world the same way again!

“O” - Oyster of the garden. Lush, slippery, sometimes briny like with a Green Zebra, I demand you to consider the luxury of tipping a sun ripened tomato slice into your mouth, melting on your tongue and sliding down into your gullet with the same luxury of swallowing an oyster.

“M” - Mangia! Would we have Italian food? Without tomatoes? Pizza, marinara, bruschetta, caprese! But not only Italian! Tomatoes originated in what is now Mexico, but show up in cuisine world wide, from beef stews in China, to shakshuka in North Africa. Is it possible if we all ate a tomato together we could bring peace to this world?

“A” - Artistic palette. Beyond the brightest tomato red. (Perfectly replicated in OPI’s tragically discontinued Clambake nail polish hue) We have the whirling tie dye of the Pineapple, the inky black spot of the aptly named Ink Spot. The moody shifting green and red of the Chocolate Cherry. Spend a moment in meditation of the tomatoe’s diversity of flesh!

“T” - Tender. Gentle flesh, smooth and soft, encasing a nuclear bomb of flavor.

“O” - Oh! Pico! de! Gallo!
