Just checked the elk. Today is a record as there were 3 calves born today. Dora was one of them she is the tame cow that is going on 14 years old.

When it’s time to calve it happens pretty quick. I opened the gate to the field for the elk cows to bring in a covered wagon for shade and hay. Of course they all ran out into alley way so I left them in there for an hour or so. Went back to feed them and found this fresh born calf.

Planted pearl millet and iron clay cowpeas for summer pasture for the elk cows and calves. Calves should be coming any day now.

Excited about the antler growth on these bulls . The or210 bull has had a lot of extra antler growth down low since he was a spiker. See the shed buttons that kinda wrap down around his head. Not sure what to expect out of him. Will be interesting. He will be four years old.

I really like this bunch of elk calves from last year. Several are AI calves from some really nice bulls. It was great to get 12 bulls out of 18 calves.

The bull elk are enjoying the snow and cold temperatures. This is why you don’t leave the antlers on the bulls. I moved a couple bulls from one field in with bulls in another field. These two challenged each other for the top stud position.
