I’m officially at the stage of life where I’m ridiculously proud of… grass. 😂🌱🐑
This is the first year for our 4-acre pasture, and after letting it establish most of the summer, we’ve finally started rotational grazing it!
Instead of giving everyone access to the whole pasture, we’re moving the flock through about 0.2 acre at a time. They eat what they want, trample some of the older growth, fertilize as they go 💩, and—most importantly—we move them before they eat it down too far.
Then that section gets to rest and regrow while they move on to fresh grass. Over time, rotational grazing helps build stronger plants and healthier soil, improves drought resilience, and hopefully means more months grazing and fewer months buying hay. 🙌
The coolest part is seeing the difference between untouched, freshly grazed, and already-recovering pasture.
We still have a lot to learn, but for year one?
I grew grass. I put sheep on the grass. AND I DIDN’T KILL THE GRASS. 😂
I’m calling that a farm win. 🌱🐑❤️
