Welcome to the Five-Star Summer Spa at Spinning Arrow Acres. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Today’s amenities included:
🧊 Ice troughs for the sheep & goats
💨 A giant barn fan
🐶 An all-you-can-crunch ice buffet for Yukon

Everyone survived another hot Illinois day, management has received zero complaints… and Yukon would like to compliment the chef on the ice selection. 😂🐑🐐🐶

🧹 Progress over perfection.

After hauling what felt like a hundred wagon loads of old hay and bedding, we finally have a clean aisle again! 🙌

For now, we’ll just pretend the rest of the barn doesn’t exist. 😂

🚨 Chicken Rescue Mission! 🐔

Yesterday we realized one of our hens had somehow managed to get herself trapped underneath one of our sheds. We still have no idea how she squeezed under there, but she definitely couldn’t get back out.

Out came the shovels! We dug a big hole under the shed until she finally had enough room to make her escape.

Once she was free, she got a well-deserved mealworm snack, a quick bath to clean her up, and we made sure she found the water before we called it a night. ❤️

Farm life definitely keeps us on our toes, but seeing her walk away safe made all the digging worth it.

Anyone else have animals that seem determined to keep life interesting? 😂🐔

There’s a baby chick inside this egg… and I watched it move. 🥹🐣

Candling eggs is one of my favorite parts of hatch season. Seeing the network of veins—and then watching the chick wiggle inside—never stops being incredible.

We already have four chicks on the ground, and these eggs have me hopeful that a few more are on the way.

I’ll keep you all updated as they hatch! ❤️

🐣 TURN YOUR VOLUME UP! 🔊

Those little peeps you’re hearing? They’re chicks talking to their mama… from inside the eggs. 🥹

We currently have four fluffy babies, three eggs pipping, and we’re hoping a few more decide it’s time to join the world.

Nature never gets old. ❤️

Missing Chick Update: FOUND. 🐥✅

Location: Under an extremely protective mama hen. 😂

She had a few words for me when I checked under her wing, but I think finding this little face was worth it. ❤️

Every chicken has to learn how to be a chicken. 🥹

This mama is tidbitting—a special call hens use when they find something worth eating. She’ll cluck, pick up the food, and drop it over and over to show her chick exactly what to eat.

In this case… it’s the grain I spilled while filling the feeder. 😂

Nature is pretty incredible.
