Hemlock and Chica were recently shorn here at Spinning Arrow Acres 🖤🐑🦙
Hemlock is our first bottle baby and permanent resident on the farm. Chica has recently moved on to a new home where she got to meet another alpaca for the very first time — and we’re so excited for her next chapter 🥰
Our alpaca and sheep are feeling much cooler and more comfortable heading into the warmer months! While many people think of wool simply as fiber, we love finding ways to use every part of what our farm produces.
This year, we decided to place some of the fleece around our newly planted apple trees before topping them with wood mulch. Raw wool can help retain moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperatures, and slowly return nutrients back into the soil as it breaks down over time. It’s a simple, sustainable way to reduce waste while supporting the next generation of growth on the farm 🍎🌱
One of our favorite parts of farming is discovering how connected everything really is — the animals helping nourish the orchard, the orchard helping feed our family, and every season building toward the next.
We can’t wait to watch these trees (and this farm) continue to grow 🥰
