Hemlock and Chica were recently shorn here at Spinning Arrow Acres 🖤🐑🦙

Hemlock is our first bottle baby and permanent resident on the farm. Chica has recently moved on to a new home where she got to meet another alpaca for the very first time — and we’re so excited for her next chapter 🥰

Our alpaca and sheep are feeling much cooler and more comfortable heading into the warmer months! While many people think of wool simply as fiber, we love finding ways to use every part of what our farm produces.

This year, we decided to place some of the fleece around our newly planted apple trees before topping them with wood mulch. Raw wool can help retain moisture, suppress weeds, regulate soil temperatures, and slowly return nutrients back into the soil as it breaks down over time. It’s a simple, sustainable way to reduce waste while supporting the next generation of growth on the farm 🍎🌱

One of our favorite parts of farming is discovering how connected everything really is — the animals helping nourish the orchard, the orchard helping feed our family, and every season building toward the next.

We can’t wait to watch these trees (and this farm) continue to grow 🥰

Ferb and Legacy had an absolute blast attending this year’s FFA Ag Expo! 🐐💚

One of our favorite parts of farming is getting to share agriculture with the next generation. Watching kids interact with the animals, ask questions, laugh, learn, and build confidence around livestock is something that never gets old for us. Events like these are such an important reminder of how valuable agricultural education and community involvement truly are.

At Spinning Arrow Acres, we love creating opportunities for families and youth to connect with agriculture in a hands-on and positive way. Whether it’s learning about animal care, meeting livestock up close, or simply making memories on the farm, we are proud to help keep those experiences alive in our community.

We are also now scheduling Farm Frolic visits at the farm for the season! While we do occasionally attend community events, our favorite experience is welcoming people out to Spinning Arrow Acres to enjoy the animals and farm atmosphere firsthand. Farm Frolics are great for homeschool groups, daycares, family outings, small groups, and anyone looking for a fun and educational farm visit. Feel free to reach out for more information or to schedule a visit! 🐑🐐🌾

Today was bittersweet around the farm. ❤️

After a lot of thought about the direction we want to take things, Chica has officially headed to her new home. She will be so deeply missed around here — she brought so much personality, curiosity, and calm to the pasture. But we’re also excited knowing she now has another alpaca friend and a family ready to love her just as much as we do.

Over the last few years, we’ve had the opportunity to try a little bit of everything here at Spinning Arrow Acres, and it has helped us learn what truly fits our goals long-term. As hard as it is to say goodbye to animals we love, we’ve decided to simplify, downsize a bit, and focus our efforts on continuing to improve and grow our sheep program.

We’re incredibly grateful for every season, every lesson, and every animal that has been part of this journey — and Chica will always be one of those special ones. 🦙❤️🐑

At Spinning Arrow Acres, we are incredibly grateful for the support of our repeat buyers and everyone who has trusted our program over the years. We take great pride in raising quality Katahdin sheep with a focus on strong genetics, sound structure, hardiness, parasite resistance, and overall flock health.

Our pricing reflects the quality, care, and investment that go into our animals, as well as current market conditions. We typically begin by offering our sheep locally around the $300 range before pursuing larger sales or auctions because we truly value the relationships we build with our buyers. We enjoy being able to answer questions, help match people with the right animals, and watch our sheep succeed in new homes and breeding programs.

We are excited to be introducing a new ram into this year’s breeding season and are looking forward to the quality lambs expected this fall and next spring. If you are interested in reserving a lamb or learning more about our breeding program, feel free to reach out — we would love the opportunity to work with you in the future!

Thank you again to everyone who continues to support Spinning Arrow Acres and believes in what we are building. 🐑

It turns out that after shelling out cash for a bunch of gizmos meant to tame the dry lot mess, the trusty push broom and some serious sweat equity still reign supreme.

Huge achievement unlocked! Two years (yep, almost three!) of hard work have paid off, and our chicken run is complete! Next goal: getting that food forest planted. Massive thanks to Shane for making this happen, you're a legend! 😂 Don’t mind the few that escaped…they’ve flown the coop
