🏆Battle of the Breeds;
Dairy Month Edition🥛

June is National Dairy Month, and we’re celebrating by shining a spotlight on the six major dairy breeds recognized in the United States by the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association (PDCA).

Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce each breed, share fun facts, explore what makes them unique, and put them head-to-head in our Battle of the Breeds challenge. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorites and help decide which breed earns the title of Battle of the Breeds Champion.

Every dairy breed brings something special to the industry, from milk production and components to longevity, efficiency, and adaptability. Throughout the series, we’ll take a closer look at what makes each breed unique.

We’re curious…

When you picture a dairy cow, what breed comes to mind first?

For many people, it’s a black-and-white Holstein. But each dairy breed has its own history, strengths, personality, and contributions that help make the dairy industry what it is today.

Same destination. Very different travel styles 🐄☀️

Jungle Juice? Put a halter on, toss the lead over her neck and she’s ready for the adventure because she knows green grass is waiting.

Girl Gone Wild? She’ll drag her feet at turtle speed all the way to pasture… then spend the day soaking up the sunshine.

Heading home though? Better have that halter ready because suddenly she remembers grain exists and she’s got places to be 🌾😂

Best smell in the world is a good cut of first crop hay 🤤 makes you salivate 😂 Do you agree? ❤️- yes😡- no

This is why we do it.

For the friendships built in the barn aisles.
For the people who celebrate your wins like they’re their own.
For the moments where competitors are also some of your biggest supporters.

Because every exhibitor out there understands the early mornings, the late nights, the sweat, the tears, the sacrifices, and the work that happened long before anyone ever stepped into the ring.

At the end of the day, the greatest part of this industry is watching people cheer for one another anyway. 🤍🐄

What’s your this is why we do it moment/s?

If these boots could talk… 👢🐄

They’d talk about the time amniotic fluid got dropped on them during a calf being born.

The time a foot slipped out of one after it got stuck in mud and manure… followed by a very long string of cuss words. 😂

They’d talk about the countless trips up and down the driveway while the boys practiced leading heifers. Honestly, the amount of steps in these boots would probably astonish most people.

They’d remember the smell of fresh cut hay on the wagon, milk dripping on them while pre-stripping quarters, late night checks, early mornings, sore feet, hard lessons, and moments we’d give anything to relive again.

And somehow, through all the mud, manure, milk, and memories… they just keep going. 🤎
