Our 2.5 buckets of grapes gave us 20 quarts of juice. That is 5 gallons. The last 6 are in the canner now. This took about 3.5 hours from start to finish (not counting picking).

Spent 30 mins outside picking. I have 2.5 buckets of grapes. I missed the Concords, they came and dried up without me noticing. This heat is throwing off all the schedules.

Tomorrow I will juice them and later turn some into jelly.

Deep thoughts from a homesteader:

As the crowned royalty of half-finished projects, our chickens need a temporary run. (Can't build the nice run until we lift the back side of the barn that is sinking from water runoff, which is why we added a gutter... but it's not going to get done this year) So we took out random fencing and zip ties and went to work!

I noticed that as we worked, the chickens just happily went about their business, eating their morning scratch. They did not seem to notice they were slowly being fenced in. It wasn't until we were finished that they panicked when they couldn't find a way out.

It made me think of how often we live our lives blissfully ignorant of how our actions and choices are slowly putting us in a cage. I hope I can live a life more self-aware and observant than a chicken. And I hope I make enlightened choices that keep me far from situations that could trap me.

Today:
We got up, had breakfast, and gathered some supplies we needed for processing rabbits. Then we did the morning animal chores and milking.

It was our turn to clean the church, so we went there at 8am and spent an hour and a half vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, and washing light switches.

At 9:30 we started setting up for processing. We invited two new friends we met at the park to come help/learn. They arrived around 10 and after instructions, we got to work. By 11:30 we had 12 rabbits on ice and were ready to clean up.

After cleaning up, Mike wanted to mow the lawn but I wanted the clover we have been letting grow in the grass for the rabbits. So, we gathered clover for today and to dry for later.

Now I'm showering, going to a friend's house to empty their freeze dryer (they are on vacation but the cycle was not done yet), then off to the store for berries and peaches for tonight's dinner.

Later we need to go to Lowes to get a pipe part to fix another leak in the sprinkler line, and perhaps Milk will let me beat him at a game of Carcassonne before dinner!

We have put in 7 hours of work today and it's only halfway over!

It has been a while since I posted here. Yesterday two friends came over and we canned 30 lbs of black beans. We ended up with 94 pints

Also. Big news. We are adding two young does to our homestead tomorrow. Sharpay and Fae will be picked up Thursday night. They are both year old mini lamanchas. Cidney and Kahlan are in their last lactation and will retire and be sold as pets next year.

We are excited for summer!
