Day 1 with a few summer borns. This is how we like to get the calves used to the show life!

Taking advantage of a rainy break from harvest to introduce the show life to a few of the summer borns calves. We get asked how we like to start calves. Everyone does it differently. We like to take a slow approach. We use a blower to act as an extension of the hand to get the calves used to being worked with. We won’t introduce a halter until until we can walk up and slip it on.

We set out on an adventure four years ago to start a herd with our first Miniature Hereford, Strawberry. The roller coaster of emotions of the highs and lows that this amazing experience has brought us has been a wild ride. We made the decision to only bring our bred & Owned calves to the Iowa State Fair and we could not be more proud of the outcome! Thank you to everyone who was part of the team this year from wash/dry crew, fitters, showmen, great neighbors, and some of our best friends! We couldnt have done it without you!
