Candling is the process of shining a bright light through an eggshell to illuminate its internal contents. It is used to monitor the development of an embryo during incubation or to check the freshness and quality of eating.

This is a Pekin Duck egg that is due to hatch tomorrow. If you look to the left of the bottom of the egg you can watch the heartbeat of the duck.
