CELEBRATIONS COMING UP!!! :) ... Oct 6 will be my 81st birthday! We are also celebrating being in our 50th year of ministry in Indonesia! And it has now been 150 years of the Doriots owning this farm near Fayette, Ohio!!! ... Maybe we'll celebrate all of this on October 6 - along with our 20 year plan for family activities and some continuing ministry! Which will include planning for my 100th birthday, and our 75th wedding anniversary! ... YES, we are crazy!!! But, the Lord does some crazy, amazing, fantastic things!!! Miracles even!!! 😲 ... Most of all, pray that we'll know the Lord's will, in all of this, short-term activities, long-term goals. ... And, if you can plan to come and see up on this short notice, October 6, or some day in that vicinity, let us know!!! 😀🙏

Do you get friend requests, other communication, from HACKERS, and other non-legitimates sources? I get a LOT!!!! (But, I get LOTS of legitimate friend requests - and it's hard sometimes to tell the difference!) Here's what I just wrote to one of these questionable contacts: "I really like getting new friends, communicating with them, learning about them, learning from them, and giving them help from things I know, BUT I hate wasting time with hackers and others who are wasting people's time, taking advantage of them, hurting them, in many cases!!! They will receive their punishment from the Lord, that is certain!!! ... Which are you?"

COVID!!! My brother, Veryl, has tested positive for Covid! And, the day before, he was out here on the farm, helping with various things. I don't know how significant this exposure to him may be, but pray for protection for us in this, and that, Lord willing, we may not get Covid! ... And pray for him, that he will get over this soon!

By the way, we had a great time on this last trip! We crossed state lines nine times in seven days, going to South Carolina and back. We were able to visit and encourage a number of older friends and former colleagues, and spoke in Sunday School, the worship service, and in the Christian school, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Clarksburg, WV! I attended there when I worked in engineering on the Interstate Highway program, and I was actually ordained at Emmanuel, after quitting my government job, and going back to seminary.

At Cornerstone Baptist in Springfield, Ohio, another supporting church, they are having a birthday party Saturday evening, for a member, former missionary to the Philippines, who is 100 years old!!! We would very much like to attend, but haven't decided whether to make that three hour trip, especially since I will be speaking in another church here Sunday morning. Pray for wisdom, and sensitivity to the Lord's leading. :)

A significant component of our ministry is to offer support and encouragement to colleagues and friends, especially as they navigate the challenges of aging and physical health issues. On this one week trip, we've had some GREAT VISITS - an elderly former field leader, a retired pastor in serious condition, two other elderly friends. Two are in the hospital. ... Now, tomorrow, a missions presentation, and missions sermon, at Emmanuel Baptist in Clarksburg, WV. PRAY!!!

On the road again! Tuesday: Fayette to Harold, KY. Visiting friends and checking on linguistics programs at Cedarville University. Wed.: To Arden, NC - memorial service for one of Suzanne's cousins, connecting with family. Thurs.: To Columbia, SC - visiting elderly colleague in Papua, Field Chairman during our early days in Papua. Fri.: Back to Charleston, WV - visiting supporters and friends. Sat.: To Clarksburg, WV - speaking Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist, where I attended and served when I was in Engineering in WV, AND I was ordained there. Mon.: Return to Fayette. ... Please pray for our travel, meetings, visiting with friends, family, supporters. Thanks! :)

NEWS FLASH! A relative of Suzanne has passed away,band we plan to go to a memorial service in NC on Wednesday. So, we will be going through various parts of Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia, going and coming, so we'll be seeing various people, and speaking in various places. Pray for all this - and let us know if you're near our route and want to see us!!! ... Thanks!!! 🙂

WHERE'S WALDO? Or where is he going? More importantly, WHERE ARE THE DORIOTS GOING? Pray, as we make decisions on a couple major trips we need to make in the US this fall, to visit supporting churches and individuals, speak in Indonesian churches, visit Indonesian college students here in the US, see some relatives and friends - and make new contacts. We're considering a trip to the far Northwest. Possibly to the LA area, and/or to the DC area/east coast. We also need to get to Dallas, at some point, and to West Virginia. Pray for wisdom. Let us know if you'd really like to see us, or know a place we should speak/give a presentation. ... AND, to travel, our 2005 Buick is getting less reliable, and we are thinking of selling it and upgrading. Pray for wisdom in this too! IF you know someone who is selling a good car, at a good price, let us know!!! Is an elderly person in your church no longer driving, and willing to sell their car? Is there some fantastic deal in your local paper? We can afford TO FLY MOST ANYWHERE in the US to pick up a car, if it's a great deal!!! Then, we'll start one of the trips we need to make, from there!!! :) ... (We're thinking of something in the range of a 2015 to 2018 - if we can afford it!) ... Please continue to pray for the Nalja Old Testament Bible translation. Pray also for an effective literacy program throughout the Nalja area, so many people will be able to read! LITERACY is an area we will emphasize in Nalja churches, when we make our next trip to Indonesia, probably in January!

For the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!!! 😳 The Cincinatti Reds are one of the oldest franchises in baseball - since 1882!!! And they're in my home state of Ohio, but I've never been to a game there. Tomorrow night might be the first time!!! ... We have a couple friends to visit on the way there, and back. And, for any of you in the western half of Ohio, if you're interested in a short visit, contact us asap, and we'll see if we can work it in!!! 😀 ... Pray for our travel, and for the Lord to prepare people He might have us contact in some way!!! :)

This morning's sermon at our church emphazised the importance of Scripture memorization. Many people find it difficult to memorize Scripture, or difficult to find the time to do it. I have a program that I developed years ago, to help most anyone memorize Scripture, in accordance with their age, situation, etc. I want to do some revision on that, and use it to help people in this area. However, I can't find it on my present computer. I'll have to see if I have it somewhere else. In the meantime, do any of you FB friends have a copy that I've given out in the past? Or do you have some program you have used and found effective? If so, let me know. And pray that many Christians will get started, or restarted, memorizing God's Word! So very important in these present days, in particular!!!

(Repeat post! Progress!!! Updated. Please pray fervently during this next week at least!) 🙏 ... Praise the Lord! Pray fervently!!! I had a chance to talk for an hour with Jeremy Souga, the main translator, last night! He's made some mistakes, had some wrong attitudes, but we had a good talk. Pray for him to follow the Lord's leading! ... The Nalja OT translation project has had one difficulty after another, and this VERY important project, for the 30,000 people in the Nalja tribe, desperately needs prayer. One need has been finances. The translation committee has not been able to raise funds adequately, for one reason or another. But, PRAISE THE LORD, the project has recently received three unexpected gifts. $1,000 from a family in Jakarta, that we haven't been able to visit since Covid started, $1,000 from an Irian Jaya MK, who was in Irian Jaya/Papua even before we got there. And children from a Vacation Bible School in Michigan, donated over $1,300!!! Wow! What a help!!! 🙂 ... This will cover their expenses for a number of months, but the committee needs to raise additional gifts there in Indonesia, and/or additional gifts will be needed, to finish the Nalja OT next year! ... THE FOLLOWING IS SO IMPORTANT!!! Also, pray for the new checking procedure being instituted. A number of Nalja people with education will take sections of Nalja translation, second draft material, and do a back translation (back into Indonesia), which Umico and Brian will be able to check. Their input will go back to Jeremy (primary translator, in picture) and Benoni, to process, and make a third draft, which will be ready for a consultant check. ... BUT, consultants have been hard to find, so pray that a couple possibilities will eventuate, and final checking proceed rapidly!!! ... THIS IS A CRITICAL PROJECT!!! PLEASE pray for these requests regularly over the coming months. Funds, checking, working together, and more - your prayers will be most valuable in the spiritual battle to complete this important project!!! Today, August 1, is our 54th wedding anniversary!!! (Compare our picture today with our 49th, when we were in Tokyo.) :) ... We ate at Golden Corral in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and went to a movie at the Regal Theater there. The manager gave us free popcorn for our anniversary!!! LOL ... Pray for us in our continuing ministries in Indonesia, and in ministries developing in my home area of NW Ohio! (We have room for you to spend the night when you pass through! We had a most interesting trip to Wisconsin last weekend! We mentioned visiting with Dan Janzen, and Toni from Albania, in a post below, and colleague Char Murdoch, in another post. But, we really enjoyed seeing some of our more distant Doriot relatives, in Medford, and in the Oshkosh area, and seeing my third cousin, twice removed, quarterback in the high school All-Star game!!! (Watch for Finnley Doriot in the NFL in another six or eight years - Lord willing!) :) ... We also received a VERY enthusiastic welcome at Wellspring church last Sunday. We shared about Bible translation, west New Guinea, etc. ... Now, we're back on the farm, but looking forward to having five or six of our twelve grandchildren here this weekend! We'll try to have some pictures soon!

Exciting events continue! :) A nice visit with a long-time colleague in Papua, fellow Bible translator, Char Murdoch, near Racine, Wisconsin, this afternoon. Then we drove to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where we're having breakfast with a classmate from elementary school, Lyle Borton. We haven't seen each other in over 60 years! 😲 ... Then we have a lunch engagement with some distant Doriot relatives, in Medford, third cousin Chuck Doriot. and his wife. This will be the first time we have met! Finally, we'll head east to Oshkosh, WI, to watch an All-Star high school football game. Finnley Doriot, third cousin twice removed, one of the top high school football players in Wisconsin last year, will be quarterbacking one of the teams! ... On Sunday, we'll be sharing at Wellspring at the Cross church in Combined Locks, Wisconsin. ... So, pray for us in making these contacts, ministering on Sunday, and then making the long drive back to Ohio, Sunday afternoon or Monday! :) ... Thanks!!!

(Important post! Read this all!!) :) ... AMAZING GROWTH!!! Look at these pictures of some beans in our produce garden, taken just 24 hours apart!!! 1) Good soil, 2) lots of water/rain, 3) really warm weather - and things can REALLY grow fast!!! ... This vividly reminded me of the responsibility we Christians have to grow spiritually! In 2 Peter 3:18, we are COMMANDED to grow in spiritual knowledge, and in understanding of God/Christ and His working in the world and in our lives. ARE WE REALLY GROWING? (Sins of omission, are still ... , well, sins!!!) ... (Great message by our pastor this morning on taking a spiritual inventory of our lives. See Comments for URL.) ... To grow responsibly, spiritually, we need: 1) Good soil - our lives, our commitments - first to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and then to full commitment as required of each believer (Rom 12:1,2); 2) lots of water - reading the Word, memorizing Scripture, reading good books on Christian living; 3) really warm weather - good Christian fellowship, as members of a Bible-teaching church, or a strong group that functions Biblically as a church. (Heb 10:25 commands us to have such relationships with other Christians.) ... In our families today, in our communities, in our country, we desperately need mature Christians, we need growing Christians! ... Even we missionaries, still need to be growing!! Just found out the Detroit Tigers (which I've followed since I was ten years old), are playing in Detroit tomorrow night, against the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of the top national league teams! And Detroit best pitcher, one of their younger players, is pitching! Only about $30 for a ticket on Stubhub. We are considering going - and looking for any people in the area - family, friends, or acquaintances - who might like to go together on this short notice. CRITICAL DECISIONS!!! ... Brian and Umico are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today. They are meeting with a doctor who is an expert in dealing with the genu valgum condition that Umico has suffered with for 20 years. (Basically, "knock knees.") ... Brian and Umico will be evaluating the doctor's recommendations on whether Umico should have the necessary operation at her age, where the best place to do it would be, how to deal with the cost, etc. PLEASE PRAY for wisdom in all the decisions involved, which will have a significant impact on their family in the months to come, and probably for the rest of their lives!!! ... The national church we work with, GIDI, has just had elections. Pray for the new President and Vice President, as they begin their five year terms soon.

Making our first appearance for this year at the Farmers' Market in Fayette this morning. We have a few things from our garden, plus some fruits and vegetables I figure people in Fayette need, that I picked up to resell. (Some great watermelons and canteloupes, actually!) ... Planting more late summer vegies, and looking forward to working Monday or Tuesday with the teenagers that have helped our supervisor, Tammy, do things here while we were in Indonesia! ... Pray for us as we balance this aspect of ministry here, with other ministry, traveling, and follow-up in Indonesia. ... Thanks so much for your prayers! :)
