This was not on my bingo card for today.
We were grinding a load of feed, but we were shoveling corn from inside the grain bin as it is almost empty. I popped my head out to check the scale and I noticed the PTO shaft was smoking. I got out of the bin and shut everything down, but it was already too late to save the knuckles. We took what was left of the PTO shaft to Baumler Implements in West Union, and was told it would likely be early next week. I stressed how important its, as my backup mill has already been robbed of needed parts and I had empty feeders. I knew I had some older PTO shafts at home, but didn't think any would be the right size. They told me they would see what they could do. I drove home trying to figure out if I needed to call the local co-op and have feed deliveried for the first time. When I pulled in the driveway I saw the 10' auger and thought maybe it would work, then I saw the old mill sitting in the back shed, we pulled out the PTO shaft and luckily it fit, so we could finish grinding feed. Before we finished the last load, Baumler Implements called and said they were able to find enough parts and had mine rebuilt and ready to go.
Today I was so glad we hadn't sold the old mill so I could salvage parts and very thankful to have Baumler Implements who are willing to go the extra mile to help with machine repairs when you need it the most.
