Milk Delivery Reminder and More (so please read all the way through)

Hey ya'll!! It's Bessie the official spokes-cow for Jackson Family Farms. Just wanted to remind you that tomorrow (Friday) is milk delivery day.

These days the milk has been delivered and hitting the cooler about 1pm or so, but I'll post when the milk is delivered and in the cooler.

Here's an announcement (I hope you've read this far) .... next week, not tomorrow, but next week we are bringing back the quart bottles of old fashioned custard. YUMM, YUMM, YUMM! Can't wait for you to try it. Wonderful vanilla flavoring just right for a smoothie, ice cream, oatmeal, berries and cake, or just by itself.

Well don't forget your bottles tomorrow! AND we have increased the amount of Egg Nog coming in this week and even more next week!!
It's so rich and deeeeelicious!!

How to Help Your Pumpkins Last Longer

Our pumpkin season at Jackson Family Farms has been going well and going strong. Thank you all for your continued support.

However during this season I'm still hearing alot of people share their concerns about how to keep their pumpkins looking good.

I've posted this a couple of times but I think it's worth repeating. There is a simple way to keep those pumpkins looking good whether you have them outside or inside your home.

First a brief explanation. Pumpkins rot from the outside in, not inside out. The culprit is natural bacteria whose job is to break down the tough pumpkin skin to allow the seeds inside to germinate and grow naturally (in their native surroundings).

So to keep this from happening we must clear away the bacteria. Be aware, this process only works on uncarved pumpkins or pumpkins whose skin has not been broken or cracked.

Let's continue ...

* Mix 9 parts water with 1 part chlorine bleach in a bucket.

* Using a soft cloth bathe the pumpkins throughly with the water/bleach mixture. Remember to gently wash the stem and blossom end as well ... but be careful not to break the stem.

* Rinse the pumpkins well and dry them with a clean soft cloth.

* Let them completely air dry before placing them where you want them.

Easy Peesy! In almost every case your pumpkins are going to last for weeks if not longer.

Great News! We've Restocked Our Country Ham at Jackson Family Farms

Westwater Country Ham has been providing Country Ham in Warsaw, NC since the 1950s. Cured with salt and sugar country ham has been a beloved part of Southern Cooking, well, for a long, long, long time.

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner it's always great!

If you're needing to be a little salt shy, here's a trick my grandma taught me. Soak the Ham in water, or milk for an hour or so and change the liquid a few times. This draws out some of the salt and reduces the over all sodium level. The taste is milder, but just as delicious. Pat it completely dry before frying.

At Jackson Family Farms we have just about everything you'd need for a meal featuring this country ham.

For breakfast: pick up our eggs, potatoes, onions and sourdough bread to make a country ham and hash brown breakfast with sourdough toast.

For Lunch: get some of our tomatoes, sourdough bread, hoop cheese wedges, and some apples to make a great ham sandwich cheese melt, and quick fry the apples for dessert.

For Dinner: try some of Auntie's garlic cheese biscuits, our tomatoes, our sweet potatoes, and cabbage for a fried cabbage with sliced tomatoes, and ham with baked sweet potato dinner.

Mmmm, Westwater Country Ham is good anytime!
