🐣 Have you thought about raising quail? 🤎

They may be tiny, but these little birds have quickly become one of my favorites around the farm!

🏡 They don’t require a lot of space — you can raise quite a few in a small setup.

🤫 They’re much quieter than chickens, making them great for garages, barns, or smaller homesteads.

🥚 They start laying much younger than chickens and can be great little egg producers.

💪 Those tiny eggs are packed with protein and nutrients.

🌾 They don’t eat nearly as much as larger poultry.

🧹 Their smaller size makes them pretty simple to care for and manage.

🎨 And with Coturnix quail, there are SO many beautiful colors!

And yes… that whole setup in the pictures houses a LOT of quail without taking up half the barn! 😍

We currently have Coturnix quail available in several colors and ages at Double K Farms. 🐥🤎

Fair warning: you may think you only need 5 or 10… and then somehow you end up with 30. 😂😂

🦚 I am loving how my peachicks are filling out. They become more stunning each week. I can’t wait to see what colors they all will be. 😍

Anyone have any guesses as to if they are male or female?

When one of your prized peachicks escapes their brooder and poses ever so casually to just tease me and act like it’s going to let me catch it… WRONG!! It played the game of “let’s see how hi I can go before she catches me”!!!!! 🤪🤦‍♀️

Tonight’s entertainment: Braves baseball, a basket full of peas, and absolutely no personal space thanks to the animals. 😂⚾️🫛🐶🐱

Tony and I sat out on the back porch tonight enjoying the cool air, watching the Braves play, and shelling peas we grew right here in our own garden. Of course, the dogs and kitten decided they needed to supervise every single pea that went into the bowl. 😂

And you know what? I wouldn’t trade evenings like this for anything. ❤️

There’s just something about growing your own food, sitting beside the person you’ve built a life with, animals gathered around your feet, and realizing that some of the very best moments in life don’t cost a dime.

No fancy plans.
No reservations.
No rushing around.

Just a back porch, dirty garden hands, a ballgame on TV, peas to shell, animals underfoot, and someone you love sitting beside you. 🥹❤️

I think sometimes we spend so much time waiting on the “big” moments that we forget these ARE the big moments.

One day, I have a feeling these simple nights will be the ones we’d give anything to have back.

So tonight, I’m soaking it in. 🫛🌱⚾️🐾

Turns out the simple life is pretty rich after all. ❤️

This is what it has come to 🤪. I had to purchase a baby gate to keep them out of the barn with me. When I am in the barn, they pace and stare at me and honk the entire time trying to get my attention. 🤦‍♀️
