🌰 A local taste of fall you might not have tried: chestnuts!

Brad and Sandy Russell, owners of Chestnuts in the Ozarks near Omaha, Arkansas, are growing chestnuts with a passion for producing high-quality nuts and building a more sustainable food future.

Chestnuts are naturally low in fat, contain complex carbohydrates, and have a sweet flavor that makes them delicious roasted, eaten on their own, or used in everything from soups and stuffing to desserts.

We’re excited that the chef preparing our conference lunch will incorporate these chestnuts, too! A delicious way to bring local ingredients to the table and introduce something grown in our region.

Your next One Local Choice could be something you’ve never cooked before. Have you tried chestnuts?

Chestnuts in the Ozarks offers freshly harvested chestnuts for purchase directly from their farm, with online ordering available for shipping or farm pickup:

Looking for locally raised beef, chicken, or eggs? Meet Beyond Organics!

The family began farming in Northwest Arkansas in 2009 with 12 acres. Today, they own and manage nearly 120 acres, raising livestock and growing vegetables for their community.

With drought affecting vegetable production, their diversified operation has allowed them to shift more attention toward protein production.

October is here, NWA! 🍂 This month brings a little mix of seasons to our local markets. You may still find peppers, tomatoes, and okra alongside fall favorites like sweet potatoes, winter squash, apples, and leafy greens.

Our farmers are still growing, harvesting, and bringing food to the community. Keep stopping by their booths, checking their farm stands, and asking what’s available as the season changes.
