We want to begin with gratitude.
Over the years, so many of you have become more than guests, facilitators, and volunteers. You have become part of our extended Jaybird family, and you have helped make Jaybird Hammock Farm what it is.
Because of that, we want to share honestly where our family is right now.
This has been a difficult year medically. After my heart surgery in June 2025, I learned that I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), which contributed to the mitral valve problems that led to surgery and has complicated my recovery through autonomic dysregulation. Two of our three children have since been diagnosed with hEDS as well, and our daughter Rae and I are now receiving specialty care through Mayo Clinic.
At the same time, Jay’s knees have deteriorated significantly. He is facing replacement of both knees and is expected to be out of work for about six months.
When Jay and I first opened the farm to the public, we loved the manual labor, the long days outside, and all the work that came with creating events and welcoming people here. What we did not foresee was how quickly both of us would begin facing physical limitations.
Simply put, we can no longer keep up with the physical demands of running events the way we once did.
For **October through December**, we are intentionally offering a much more limited schedule, with weekends between events for us to rest and recover.
Beginning **January 2027, Jaybird Hammock Farm will close to the public.**
We are also making a decision that breaks our hearts. Out of financial necessity, we are putting approximately **2.5 acres of our 8-acre property up for sale**, specifically the pine forest area. With Jay facing two knee replacements and approximately six months away from work, selling part of the property will help carry our family through his recovery.
It is difficult to imagine letting go of any part of Jaybird. The pine forest is a beautiful wooded area with mature pines, established trails, and a partially cleared homesite. If someone in our Jaybird community has a serious interest, please reach out to us privately.
What started as a little farm we opened to the public became something we never could have planned for. People gathered here, learned, laughed, made memories, and formed friendships.
**We made something truly special here. We made a community.**
It is with a heavy heart that we enter our **final season of events**, and we truly hope you will join us this fall. Come spend some time with us, enjoy the animals and the woods, and make a few more Jaybird memories with us. 🐐🌿❤️
