Axle Brewing Co. HONORING TRADITION, LEFT OF THE DIAL HONORING TRADITION, LEFT OF THE DIAL

The golden age of American beer is upon us.
(1037)

Many of the world’s most innovative and delicious brews are influenced by adventurous American craft brewers defining new styles and technique. The “Great Beer State” of Michigan is on the front line of this revolution and we are proud to call it home! At Axle Brewing, our philosophy is simple: Make great beer in the time-honored tradition with an eye toward innovation and an independent spirit th

at guides us. Others can chase fads and gimmicks: we make beers you’ll be proud to drink & share. From ancient civilizations to today’s global craft industry, beer has been the lubricant of life’s moments. We celebrate the happy ones, the sad ones and the places in between. Stories, music, loved ones, and great beer never go out of style. Never boring, always a bit Left of the Dial. Sure, it’s the title of one of our favorite songs, but also the place where things get really interesting.

It’s been a minute friends! In the rare event you haven’t heard, today is the 5th Birthday of Ferndale Project. We couldn’t have asked for a better successor & have been blown away by what they’ve accomplished! So get over to 567 Livernois this weekend and raise a glass to many more birthdays ahead!

When we passed the keys to our friends from Eastern Market Brewing Co this time last year, we certainly could not have imagined what the world had in store for us in 2020. It’s been humbling & inspiring to watch the amazing crew at Ferndale Project hustle, flow & grow during the last 10 months & this is the kind of story we could all use right about now.

Cheers & Happy Holidays!

Well friends, the time has come to officially pass the torch, the glass, the hat, the dutchie or whatever idiom suits your fancy! It seems like yesterday & somehow like years since we hosted our last call (for now) at the end June.

Today, we officially turn the page & hand over the keys to Ferndale Project as they celebrate their grand opening at 567 Livernois. They’ve taken a fresh approach to the space, added some cool elements, made it feel brand new yet broken in just the right amount & preserved the soul of what we created. Just like all of the best parties, you’ll see some familiar faces on the staff, and meet a ton of amazing new ones that will become fast friends.

On behalf of everyone involved in our journey, we will always appreciate the support, the kindness, and enthusiasm. Thank you for helping us provide a graceful departure for our team, the loud support for increasing self-distribution, your interest in what was next for our people & the building, and the love you showed us since day 1.

We’ve said it many times, but to find a buyer that shares our values with an authentic appreciation for the incredible diverse community we serve is a dream. Follow Ferndale Project & Eastern Market Brewing Co to keep up ! AND for Axle Brewing…….THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!!

We're excited for a new month for many reasons—we're closer to summer, Ferndale Project is opening soon, and, as important, it's time for the second in our series of 2020 Community Conversations.

Building on our last amazing evening discussing the state of diversity, inclusion, and equity in craft beer, we're excited to take this event out to the community in partnership with our friends at Focus: HOPE, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization that has pledged intelligent and practical action to overcome racism, poverty, and injustice since 1968.

Join us at Focus: HOPE on Thursday, February 20, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for a panel discussion focusing on jobs, craft beer, and equity.

For this discussion, we're bringing together a diverse group of panelists with experience in the brewing industry to discuss what we can do to create equity in job opportunities in craft beer.

After the panel discussion, there will be time for questions and remarks, then we’ll continue the conversation and networking while learning more about different beer styles. The event is free, but please consider making a donation to support Focus: HOPE's mission at the door!

Yes!!!! To all of you who signed the petition & bugged your legislators, cheers! Our friends from Eastern Market Brewing Co led a charge many thought futile & we are so proud to have played a small role in this! This change will enable small brewers to control their destiny and brand when its most important! Thank you, thank you!

We did it.

Yesterday, House Bill No. 5343 was introduced, doubling the self-distribution limit for small breweries like us. This arbitrary limit restricted the amount of beer small craft breweries could sell directly to bars and restaurants, requiring us to sign with a distributor if we wanted to take beer to your favorite watering hole.

It took twelve long months (and a lot of persistence), but finally, House Bill No. 5343 was introduced by State Representative Pauline Wendzel (huge shout out!). With bipartisan support, we expect it to be officially signed into law very soon.

Thank you to everyone who supported us in making this change happen. In the end, we brought together more than 50 Michigan breweries to publicly support this effort (and many more behind the scenes), as well as countless retailers and even two distributors. All three tiers of the three-tier system. And just as important, all of you who signed our petition and helped to create awareness.

Next up: let's get dogs back in the EMBC taproom.

Many of you attended the Juneteenth Event hosted by the The Brewz Brothaz prior to the taproom closing. Please join our friends from Ferndale Project at Eastern Market Brewing Co Thursday night for this informative panel discussion on diversity in the industry w some of the finest people in town!

In 2020, we are committed to expanding community engagement in a way that is meaningful, impactful, and authentic. To that end, the third Thursday of each month we will be introducing a Friday Eve chat on various topics of importance.

The first conversation will take place this Thursday, January 16, at 6:30 p.m. and will focus on the topics of diversity, inclusion, and equity in craft beer. While this has been a central topic locally, in reality, it has been an issue in the industry long before we opened our doors. For the first chat, we'll bring together an influential and diverse panel to discuss diversity, inclusion, and equity from their various viewpoints from within the industry.

Panelists include:
- Harry Weaver, Founder of The Brewz Brothaz podcast
- Eric Plata, Head Brewer at DeHop's Brewing Company & Café
- Jasmine Hairston, Program Specialist at Eastern Michigan University and Beertender at EMBC
- Rachel Szlaga, Owner of Brewery Faisan
- Sasha Womble, Member of the Brewz Brothaz podcast

We’d love your input to help to shape the conversation. What questions do you have for the panelists about diversity, inclusion, and equity in the craft beer industry? What topics would you like addressed during the discussion? Let us know in the comments below or send us a DM.

After the panel discussion, we’ll open the floor to all attendees to ask questions, offer viewpoints, and come together to move our industry forward. Change starts with open dialogue and mutual respect. Come with an open mind!
