One of the things I *love* about growing dahlias from seed is that your garden reflects your own taste in flowers in a whole new way.

The colors, forms, and other characteristics in your favorites dahlias become possibilities in the seeds you save. You can’t predict exactly what will bloom, but you can be thoughtful about the dahlias you grow together.

I love thinking of this as your garden’s own "signature mix." It's so delightful to me to see the characteristics I treasure reflected in the new seedlings we grow!

Did you know that after your dahlia blooms fade, seed pods can form? If your flowers are well-pollinated, after the pods turn dry and papery, you can harvest lovely seeds to plant next spring. Each one will be a unique, hybrid dahlia, often looking nothing like its "mother."
If you feel your seed pods won't dry well outside, you can pick them and take them into a low – humidity area with good airflow to finish drying. You can even harvest closed seed pods after frost!
Cleaning your dry dahlia seed pods is a great way to spend a winter evening while you're waiting on the earth to be ready for seed sowing time. 🧡 ☕️

Now what?
Triple Wren Farms has helped bring hundreds of new dahlias to market. And we can tell you: a beautiful new seedling is only the beginning!
There’s also the work of multiplying stock, understanding demand, pricing, organizing, marketing, selling, shipping… and more.
My new book, Seedling to Market, is a practical roadmap through that whole process. I hope it helps inspire new partnerships between dahlia creators and farms that already grow, sell, and distribute tubers well, and that more good community will flourish between the people who create new dahlias and people who will grow and love them.
