Triple Wren Farms is a flower farm in Ferndale, Washington and Abbottsford, Canada. We grow big fields of dahlias, help dahlia hybridizers bring their creations to market, sell dahlia tubers and seeds, and offer summer events at the farm.

Why do we care so much about planting dahlias in soil that drains well? Dahlia tubers do not like to sit in water. {Here's link to our new blog post explaining more! https://triplewrenfarms.com/watering-your-dahlias/ }

A good, soaking rain that moves through loose soil is not a problem. But when water stands in heavy soil around the tubers for too long, that's when trouble starts.

Around here, we’re just finishing our semi-traditional PNW June monsoon, and it feels like the perfect time to say it: *drainage matters.*

Good drainage may not be the most exciting part of growing dahlias, but it helps protect the beauty you're working towards! 🌧️💐

We plant huge fields of dahlias, and leave space between for seeded annuals.
This is the week they're going in! 📆
This practice means I have thousands of my favorite fillers (like this cherry caramel phlox) at my fingertips all season, it means we massively increase the biodiversity of our dahlia farm, it means lots more food for pollinators, and it means our fields are that much more stunningly beautiful.
This is one of my favorite weeks of the year! 💕✨💐🪴🌱✨💕

How do you make new dahlias?

Plant dahlia seeds! Every seed grows into a completely unique plant, unlike any other dahlia in the world. 🌍

We grow seeds, watch them closely, enjoy the blooms, and if they feel special enough to keep, we save the tuber clump and plant it again the next spring!

There is so much magic in this process (and so much patience too). This is how new beauty begins. 💐🌱
