Summer has been flying by! It has been nonstop craziness! We planted 50 tomato plants and a dozen young blueberry bushes. The rest of the garden has been neglected, unfortunately.
For Charlotte, summer has been amazing. Swimming lessons with the amazing Paul Theimer, catching her first fish and learning to use a bow and arrow at BOCO Wild, overcoming her fear of snakes at the library's reptile event, and finally participating in the library's summer reading challenge. She read over 30 hours in 3 weeks and found a lot of great books.
Mayze, the puppy is 17 weeks and over 40 lbs. She now lives outside full-time with the little lambs. She is doing a great job! She has been a wonderful addition to our homestead.
It has been incredibly warm this summer. Unfortunately for us, our AC units capicitor and compressor gave up the ghost. It was 96F in our bedroom today. It was absolutely miserable. Fortunately, mom and dad have allowed us to come stay with them and enjoy their AC. We stayed a few days last week as well, but that was because a summer storm rolled through and knocked out power in our neighborhood for over 20 hours. High temps and no power make for rough times.
But enough of the negative stuff and back to the positive. We had a great evening at the Buchanan Community Carnival last week. We ate lots of good fair food, and Charlotte rode lots of fun rides all while great live music played in the background. We look forward to going again next year!
On Friday, we went with mom to the Roanoke SPCA. She adopted the sweetest little dog, Toto. She is a spunky little lovebug that has brought mom so much joy already.
Today, we were blessed with 11 baby ducklings. Our mama duck has been sitting on her nest for over a month, and today, the little ones were finally ready. Now we are waiting on the other 3 mama's nests to start hatching. It's going to be duckling central at the barn!
Tomorrow, it will be in the 90s again. Michelle and I will spend the day working outside. Animals to move, garden to tend, and a butchering to prep for!
