We use regenerative management principles to create healthy soil which produces healthy food, making people healthier. Bluestem Ranch is a small ranch located near Cooperstown North Dakota. We use regenerative grazing practices to produce grass finished beef and lamb. We also raise pastured pork and poultry. The Bluestem Ranch name is derived from the fruits of our labor. Immediately after we took ownership of our first pasture we implemented short duration, long recovery grazing methods. After a couple years native grasses started appearing on the landscape. After several years of managing the way we do, our pastures are filling with warm season native grasses such as Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem, Indian grass, and Prairie Cordgrass. The cover picture above is from one of our pastures. The pinkish-red colored grass is Big Bluestem. This warm season native, along with others, are sensitive to overgrazing and tend to disappear under continuous grazing systems. Their presence in our pastures is vital to offering a balanced diet to our livestock. It also provides a little drought insurance during hot and dry summers because warm season grasses like those hot July days.
