National DHIA awarded $1,500 veterinary student scholarships to Kristalyn Benson, University of Wisconsin (UW), Emma Sells, Washington State University, and Julia Young, Purdue University. Selection committee members evaluated applicants on overall interest as a veterinarian planning to work in dairy, involvement in dairy medicine and extra-curricular activities, and interest in using dairy software and dairy records to aid in dairy management and improving animal health. The National DHIA Scholarship Committee selected 12 high school seniors and college students from New York to California to each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Committee members ranked applicants based on scholastic achievements, leadership in school and community activities, and responses to DHI- and career related questions. Just a reminder that NDHIA undergraduate scholarship applications are due October 31, 2025! Find the application online at https://dhia.org/scholarships/. Eligibility is defined as a family member or employee of a herd on DHIA test, or a family member of an employee or employee of a DHIA affiliate. The DHIA affiliate for the herd or affiliate employee must be a member of National DHIA. Please share if you know someone meeting these criteria!

National DHIA's 2026 scholarship application is now available online. The scholarship provides $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and college undergraduate students. Applicants must be full-time, incoming or continuing students at a technical college or a two-year or four-year college/university. To be eligible for a National DHIA scholarship, the applicant must be a family member or employee of a herd on DHI test, family member of a DHI employee, or employee of a DHI affiliate. The DHI affiliate for the herd or affiliate employee must be a member of National DHIA.

The location and dates for the 2025 National DHIA Leadership Sessions and 60th Annual Business Meeting are set! The meetings will be in Nashville, TN, March 3-6, at the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University. Look for meeting registration and hotel reservation materials in late October 2024.

The NDHIA Leadership Sessions and 60th Annual Business Meeting will be held the week of March 3, 2025. There will be shoulder meetings the days prior to the NDHIA 2025 Leadership Sessions and Annual Meeting. No organized farm or social tour is scheduled for 2025.

Nationally, the average 2023 DHI test-day herd SCC was 181,000 cells per milliliter (cells per mL), down 1,000 from 2022, according to a summary report from the Council of Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB) and compared to previous reports from CDCB and the USDA’s Animal Improvement Programs Laboratory.

U.S. milk producers again saw a decrease in average somatic cell counts (SCC) based on an annual summary of Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) test-day results.
